Mayhem broke out at Santa Monica College when campus police had to pepper spray students protesting a Board of Trustees meeting. About 30 students were treated for injuries and three were hospitalized. The students were upset over plans for the college to institute a two-tiered tuition program. The community college has been forced to trim its budget and eliminate some 1,100 classes out of the 7,400 offered. Some classes would have their class fees increased as much as 400%. About 100 students gathered to attend the meeting, but were shut out due to the small size of the room. As the crowd grew unruly, two campus police officers reacted by pepper spraying the students.

Needless to say, there will now be an investigation into the use of the pepper spray on the students. After all, it is California. What else did you expect? Forget about who started the riot. Forget about who started the trouble. The minute ′The Law′ steps in to restore order and protect people and property, the weak-kneed Liberal bureaucrats have a hissy fit. Maybe if they practiced a more rational form of economic planning, then the students would know that there is no such thing as a free ride in life.

So Santa Monica College is the latest victim of their own stupidity. Who cares if campus police did pepper spray students? If the students were not hostile to the Board of Trustees, then there would have been no incident. The 2 college police officers were outnumbered and cornered by some 100 unruly students. Perhaps next time there is to be such a meeting, the college administrators should call out the National Guard and arm them with shotguns? Forget about rubber or bean-bag bullets. Give them some nice 00-shot loads. That will make for a nice headline.
