We have another hit piece of sorts on America thanks to Newsweek (aka Newsweak) writer, Fareed Zakaria, who writes in the latest edition of that “magazine” that the “United States is the only major country in the world to which travel has declined amid a tourist boomâ€?. I will not provide a link to that periodical.

His claim that tourism is down significantly in the U.S. is false. Actually, in 2006, there were 51.6 million tourists, which nearly tied the record of 51.7 million tourists, which was set in 2000. We know what happened from 2001 through 2003 – when tourism was at its low (approximately 41 million tourists) – such as 9-11, economic downturn, etc.

However, from 2003 to 2006, there was a 25% increase in tourism.
The Commerce Department is projecting a new record for 2007 of 54 million. So, that would be higher than 51.7 million, right Fareed? WRONG – According to Fareed, tourism is depressed here because we are so “hated” in the World. In fact, in my opinion, he should have written that only Bill and Hillary Clinton could help restore our prestige on the world stage (Yeah right).

Fareed’s report is a lie and is further proof of media bias. 2007 is nearly done Fareed. Perhaps, the next time, you are driving down the road, I would suggest that you keep your eyes on what’s in front of you. Don’t look behind you. You may crash your car that way.
