On Thursday while in between campaign fund raising, the Barack Obama energy speech given at the University of Miami provided America with Obama′s solution to high gasoline prices – algae. Yes, the Obama administration is sinking an additional $14 million dollars, into the already $85 million dollar algae-biomass programs. The White House is already in full spin mode as gas prices soar during this, an election year. With oil prices for sweet crude topping $108 per barrel, Obama talks a good game of having an ′all-of-the-above′ energy policy, which includes oil and natural gas drilling, nuclear power, along with biofuel, wind, solar and other forms of renewable energy generation. But the reality is that Obama is suppressing oil production by the United States and a large portion of the ′green energy′ money is going to those companies whose owners and board members are campaign contributors. How Obama can get another five years with all of the bad economic news these days is remarkable.

During his speech, Obama bragged about how America is using less foreign oil and is actually exporting more petroleum products than importing. While Obama tries to take credit for this, he should actually take the blame, since the main reason we are using less oil, and have more to sell abroad, is because our own economy is so horrible. Multiple surveys have shown that the ′magic number′ for when pain at the pump prices impact the driving habits of ordinary Americans is $3.00 a gallon. We′ve been there for quite a while. When Obama took office in 2009, the average gasoline price for unleaded regular was only about $1.80 a gallon. This morning, it stands at $3.64 based on a national average. Some locations in California and Florida are already pushing past $5 a gallon.

The Obama administration decision to not build the Keystone XL pipeline was a major reason for the recent spike in oil prices, as was his overall policy concerning Iran. On top of that, the Obama Justice Department is blocking new drilling permits in North Dakota and the EPA is blocking new oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as obstructing new drilling methods for natural gas, commonly referred to as ′fracking.′ Critics of the Obama anti-American energy policy, such as Newt Gingrich, point out that by building the Keystone pipeline, and ceasing interference with drilling off and on shore, we could easily increase production by more than 2.4 million barrels of oil per day. More than enough to offset any potential losses from Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz.

But instead, all we get from the Barack Obama energy speech at the University of Miami is more nonsense about dumb ideas like using algae for biofuel. Like we have plenty of freshwater to spare for growing algae in? Obama is an idiot for continuing his doubling down on Renewable Energy Generation. The White House tries to spin a favorable light on the rising gasoline prices. If you think fracking is bad, just wait until to read more into the methods and chemicals are involved in making algae-biomass type fuels. Gas prices are going up because of Obama′s policies which only create more bad economic news. And yet he thinks he will have another five years to play his fiddle while America burns.
