According to the New York Times, Jon Huntsman has told his advisers that he is withdrawing for the Republican Presidential campaign and instead will endorse Mitt Romney. He is scheduled to make his announcement tomorrow prior to the GOP debate scheduled for Myrtle Beach tomorrow evening. His campaign manager, Matt David, stated that Huntsman has decided that it was time for Republicans to unite behind Mitt Romney.
Huntsman had hoped that his campaign would draw the votes of those who were tired of the endless fighting between the two political parties and believed that he would be an effective agent for this since he served as Ambassador to China under President Obama. However, his third place finish in the New Hampshire primary, where he had virtually remained encamped for the last year, may have convinced him that this constituency was smaller than he once believed.
In a bit of irony, The State, South Carolina’s largest newspaper, endorsed Huntsman earlier today.

Too bad huntsman being a reasonable candidate has resulted in him being reasonable enough to understand his candidacy is over.
And also to bad it’s reasonable for him to endorse Romney.
I’m in the anybody but romney crowd myself, but as I’ve said for a year or so, only because he’s the only chance the GOP has got. Unfortunately it’s a very credible chance.

Oh, I should have written that we’ll be covering the debate tomorrow that begins at 9:00 eastern. They tend to be pretty exciting events, at least on our site. Last week, a fistfight nearly broke out. Fun for one and all.

No opinion on Jon Huntsman but his father wrote a great book “Winners Never Cheat”.

It is just as well. The current state of the GOP will not tolerate anyone who happens to be sane. Or just a little sane. Or whatever.
Bat crap crazy, and you’re in like Flint.

The worst part about Huntsman dropping out is we will no longer see his daughters on TV.
