While most of the folks of Santa Monica, California enjoy their local Christmas tradition, there is a tiny, but activist minority attempting to take away that 60-year Christmas tradition from the city by engaging in precisely the same sort of exclusionary tactics and discrimination that they claim Christians use against them. Yes, it’s a heartwarming tale of hypocrisy from California’s zealous atheists just in time for Christmas.
In a perfect example of how not to influence people and make friends, haters of Christians in Santa Monica led by their high priest Damon Vix — a Hollywood prop maker that is not a full-time Santa Monica resident — launched a campaign to squelch the displays of Christmas nativity scenes and replace them with atheist messages.
The City of Santa Monica has for nearly six decades allowed local churches and Synagogues to set up Christmas and holiday messages in Palisades Park, a public park sandwiched between Pacific Coast Highway and Ocean Avenue. It is a display that every year brings a large number of tourists and visitors to the city.
But for the atheists it is apparently an evil that must be eradicated.
“For 60 years, it’s almost exclusively been the point of view of Christians putting up nativity scenes for a whole city block,” atheist Vix told the Santa Monica Daily Press. And so, to “balance the scales” so to speak, Vix and his atheist buddies gobbled up more spaces than they needed in order to put up anti-Christian messages.
Of course, it is a matter of free speech to allow atheists their petulant display of hate, granted. And for the last several years atheists have had their anti-Christian message displayed alongside the crèches and other Christmas displays erected by local churches.
But that wasn’t enough. This year the atheists hatched a plan to gobble up as many of the spaces as possible in order to squelch the free speech of the churches and other religious groups that have traditionally set up their annual displays.
Every year the City holds a lottery of sorts for the park spaces allotted for Christmas displays. This year the atheist group fronted by Vix gobbled up a large portion of the spaces leaving only a handful for the usual church groups to set up their holiday displays.
The atheist group was able to do this because usually only a few individuals vie for the spaces, but this year the atheists flooded the process with applications from their own members thus shutting out the churches and other organizations that have traditionally erected their Christmas displays.
But just think about the methods of these militant atheists. They are claiming that Christian religious messages are being forced on everyone to the exclusion of other views and this forced messaging is bad. Yet, they have gamed the system in Santa Monica in order to force their message on everyone to the exclusion of others.
In real life we call this hypocrisy.
You might remember another stunt organized by this same group of atheists from 2010 when they bought a billboard upon which they displayed an anti-Christian quote they falsely attributed to Thomas Jefferson.
Two of this group, Vix and Bruce Gleason, also participated in a 2009 case before the Supreme Court wherein famed atheist extremist Michael Newdow tried to get religious references removed from presidential inaugural proceedings.
In any case, this Christmas season we can thank militant atheism for taking the Santa out of Santa Monica.

Interesting point made in an article at American Thinker. We know more about the where and when of the birth of Jesus than we do about the birth of Billy Ray.
The atheists seem to believe in Billy Ray and therefore blind faith!!!
Ironic, isn’t it???

Actually, FM, we can learn about the birth of Barack in the Book of Revelations since he is the Anti-Christ.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Your mom’s the Anti-Christ.
To your dad, probably.

Yeah, that’s a real “interesting” point. It starts with a false premise, and then reaches a logically invalid conclusion.
Suggestion: don’t use “American Thinker”, whoever they are, as paragon of conservative reasoning.

What false premise? Obama’s whole childhood narrative is pure bulls*it yet you will stand behind a man who would lie about who he is and where he came from. If he’d lie about his origin he would therefore lie about anything. If you still believe in him then you’re going on blind faith because he’s a proven liar.

Really? I have to explain this?
FALSE PREMISE: It is a false premise because at minimum I know Obama exists, let alone the facts of his birth– which are well-documented from reliable sources. I can’t say the same thing for Jesus either in terms of documented birth nor his existence as a person at all.
Second, a belief in the existence of something relative to the evidence in support of something else does not constitute blind faith. That’s not what “blind faith” is.
Third, religious weirdos such as you are constantly touting the value of blind faith. So I don’t understand how blind faith, if it WERE blind faith, which it isn’t of course, to believe in Obama’s existence or history, is suddenly a bad thing for those who base most of their religious belief on exactly that, and do so unabashedly?
In short, be quietly embarrassed and let’s leave it at that. People on the right shouldn’t play with reason or logic– you’re no good at it, and you might cut yourself on the sharp edges and get hurt.

Prove that Me because even Billy Ray can’t do that!!!

It’s blind faith when one’s whole life narrative is demonstrably false but you choose to follow him regardless of the evidence and his obvious lies.
The only way I can get hurt is by making contact with your pointy head.

Your response attests that you acknowledge Obama exists. So we’re in agreement, and you lose this argument.

No it’s not “blind faith”. Get a dictionary. Get a clue. Get a life. Start making sense.
Or stay at home and drool if you want. Just stay out of politics until you get some basic critical thinking skills.
December 26th, 2011 at 3:43 pm
Obama is incompetent and failing so those who defend him can’t claim critical thinking skills. It shows blind adoration to a beloved government, the very thing Orwell wrote about and the reason liberals aren’t taken seriously in public discourse. They are themselves creatures of faith in every way, except of course when it comes to a cross.
