The headline across the wire services is that Michele Bachmann was confronted by an 8-year old “gay advocate.” The story caught my attention both because Bachmann is always newsworthy and because there is no such thing as an 8-year old advocate for anything. So what really happened can be seen in the video below.
This writer takes a libertarian view on gay rights issues generally. I don’t want the federal government passing laws which either support gay agendas or make it more difficult for gay people to have a fair shake. Issues like gay marriage are best resolved in our states, local communities, churches and families rather than in Congress or our courts. I am consistent in this view, from the Terry Schiavo case to Roe v. Wade.
One caveat which annoys my friends greatly is I do not support adoption by same-sex parents except in compelling situations where the child has no better option. The interests of children should always come first, and they are still best-served in society by having both a mommy and daddy in the home. The traditional and different roles that each bring to a family cannot be realistically duplicated by play-acting the roles.
And unfortunately, beyond shortcomings to the ideal family situation, the children of gay parents will endure some adverse reactions from others, whether it is the neighbor children brought up in a more normal environment, teasing on the playground, and in other socializing situations. It is unfortunately still the case in our society but it is certainly a compelling reason why it is generally the height of arrogance and selfishness for gay couples to adopt children.
What I had not considered until today is that gay parents themselves may also be screwing up their children. Witness the case of 8-year old “Elijah” who waited in line with his gay mom at a Michele Bachmann book signing event in order to make a gay advocacy video for YouTube. The mother fed him a line to say, which he was apparently embarrassed to say because he had to repeat it 3 times. Eventually Michele Bachmann heard him say “My mommy is gay but she does not need fixing.”
I have an 8-year old myself. He is learning how to conduct business as a lemonade stand operator, and he has learned in school that trees are good and some animal species go extinct. That is the extent of social awareness that children of this age possess. The mother of this poor boy Elijah should be ashamed for using a precious, innocent boy as a tool in her gay rights crusade.
Now watch the video and let me know what you think in the comments.

I couldn’t hear what the child told Bachmann.

The GOP’s stance is insanity.
My kid’s school has a lot of gay parents and they are mostly all great parents. I would go as far to say they, on average, try harder to be good parents. It is hard enough to raise a child but having the GOP cut gay parents off at the knees when it comes to their rights as parents is shameful.

BTW: “Michele Bachmann Accosted by Child of Gay Rights Advocate (Video)β.. Oh please.. Poor, poor Ms Ms Bachmann.. She made her anti-gay bed, she now needs to her from children who she is contributing to their misery.

What misery, Adam? So you agree with me that these children are in miserable family situations.

Having a heterosexual mother and father to raise a child is ideal.
Although I have nothing against gay/same sex parents no one will ever convince me that same sex parents are better, or equivalent.
But really, whats all the excitement about ?
Any idiot knows that gay parents/adoptees are few and far apart and a minuscule demographic among the general population that is hardly capable of destroying traditional American households.
I’m sure no one is going to argue the need for procreation to further the species.
If all the worlds parents were gay, we’d all be extinct in a hundred years.
I myself would have a hard time supporting anyone who believe homosexuals can be “fixed” any more than you could fix anyone with any sexual preference.
Different things get different peoples rocks off.
Its just that way.
But.
The kids mother is an ass hole, pathetic.
Getting an 8 year old to stump for gays is probably not what I’d call good parenting.

I’m gonna tell my kid to go up to Michelle and say, “My daddy says that you are an insane Christopath, and he’s right!” Michelle Bachmann has said so many ridiculous things, who cares? She is out of her mind, and she only appeals to those who are out of their minds, also.

Someone, please fix the typo in the first sentence of the column.
I don’t want Adam C. to be anymore confused than he already is.

Any woman who would use her eight year old to push an adult agenda indeed needs to be “fixed”.
Or is the word spayed.
