Iranian presidential dictator, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, spoke at Columbia University in one of the more controversial academic engagements in recent memory. See the videos.

Despite mostly universal derision from academics, media, lawmakers, and students alike, Columbia University president Lee Bollinger allowed Ahmadinejad a platform from which to speak in New York.

Here are the highlights of the little tyrant:

– Ahmadinejad was introduced by Bollinger as a “petty and cruel dictator.”

– On Israel, he said with a straight face, “We love all nations. We are friends with the Jewish people.”

– On 9/11, he had his Admiral Stockdale — why am I here — moment: “Why did this happen? What caused it? What conditions led to it? .. Who truly was involved? Who was really involved and put it all together?”

– On gays in Iran, this comment solicited derisive laughter from the educated students in the crowd who know that Iranian homosexuals are routinely flogged and executed: ” In Iran we don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”
