Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi′s last words were ′Do you know right from wrong?′. This he asked his captors just before they shot him in the head. Now, a day after the death of Gadhafi, the man who spells his name more ways than anybody else, we are beginning to learn more about his last moments of life. While few if anyone is grieving his death, it is becoming more clear that he was executed. Mahmoud Jibril of the National Transitional Council of Libya confirms that Gadhafi was captured alive, hiding in a concrete storm drain in his hometown of Sirte. This just days after the other of his strongholds, the town of Bani Walid, fell to the rebels.

Moammar Gadhafi apparently was part of the large convoy, of up to 100 vehicles, that was attempting to flee Sirte. A US Predator drone fired a Hellfire fire-and-forget smart missile at the convoy, hitting one of the vehicles. A French jet, part of the NATO air force detailed to aid the rebels in Libya, then attacked the convoy, possibly with cluster bombs, taking out many more. Gadhafi may have been wounded during the airstrike, but he most certainly was scared, and fled to hide in the storm drain.

As rebel troops closed in, Gadhafi surrendered, pleading not to be shot. Crawling out before his captors, it would seem that Gadhafi was subjected to a taste of revenge by the rebels. Video of the scene shows him surrounded by an angry mob, pushing and shoving him about as he bled from wounds. At some point, it became clear to Gadhafi that they were going to execute him. He told his captors, ′What you are doing is not allowed in Islamic law.″ He then shouted ″What you are doing is forbidden in Islam.″

Then came Muammar Gadhafi′s last words ′Do you know right from wrong?′ as a man held a gun to his head. One of the mob, possibly the gunman himself, told Gadhafi ″Shut up, dog!″ Gadhafi was then executed. His body has been taken to the town of Misrata, where it is being stored in a walk-in freezer at a shopping center. The National Transitional Council, led by Mahmoud Jibril, has waved the normal Islamic law of burying the body within 24 hours as they decide where to bury Moammar Gadhafi. They are concerned that his burial place could become a shrine for his supporters.
