Larry Craig, Republican Senator from Idaho, was caught exhibiting lewd acts in a public restroom. Senator Craig was quietly arrested earlier this summer and plead guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in August 2007.
Senator Craig’s career is effectively over now. He is the Republican Senator long rumored to be a closet gay, and was exposed by a website earlier this year. Craig, who is married, denied at the time that he is gay. Now he has a lot bigger problems to explain.
Hugh Hewitt makes the obvious Larry Craig resignation plea. No kidding.
“At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present.
I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area, the report states.
No doubt that Larry Craig’s mugshot will be plastered all over the net when it can be located. Read that Craig regrets his guilty plea, now that it is public.
Adding more troubles to the GOP, Senator Craig is up for re-election next year and was considered a cinch for another term. He will need to step down and the GOP will have to waste campaign funds to play defense.
But the damage does not end there. Mitt Romney and company pulled a Larry Craig endorsement video off of YouTube. With lewd friends like Senator Craig, who needs enemies?
