Karl Rove was not only the architect of two presidential election victories for George Bush, a lastly legacy. He was also the architect of the “permanent governing majority” for Republicans, a majority that turned out to be fleeting as the GOP got shelled in the 2006 mid-term election. But for a while, the idea of stoking conservative hot-button issues while marginalizing Democrats appeared to be working. And tactically, his data-driven attention to targeted fundraising drives and get out the vote drives will revolutionize campaigns. Clearly the Republican party had more success following Karl Rove’s guidance than at any point in the past 80 years.

He had discussed leaving the White House in 2006 but Bush did not want him to leave. Clearly Bush will be missing a trusted friend when Karl Rove resigns.

Said the White House press secretary, Dana Perino: “Obviously it’s a big loss to us. He’s a great colleague, a good friend, and a brilliant mind. He will be greatly missed, but we know he wouldn’t be going if he wasn’t sure this was the right time to be giving more to his family, his wife Darby and their son. He will continue to be one of the president’s greatest friends.”
