According to Reverend Harold Camping of Family Life Radio, Judgment Day is coming on May 21. What makes this claim interesting is that it is based on math. Camping has figured out from different clues in the Bible that the world will be exactly 13,023 years old then (Happy birthday, world) and as some people might know, on the world’s 13,000th birthday, on May 22, 1988, the world began the current era, the time of tribulation. There is a video of Reverend Camping on the following page.

What does Judgment Day mean, you might ask? Well, Camping predicts that the earth will shake causing tombs to open, and then the dead will rise. For 2% of the world’s population, they will get to go to heaven on that day. For the rest of us, we get to live in this menagerie for another 5 months, when God will stop the clock entirely by destroying the world. Luckily, the good Reverend knows exactly when and where this will begin, 6:00 in the Pacific Rim.

Previously, Camping had predicted that the world would end in 1994. When that prediction was presumably flawed, he defended himself by saying that he was using fuzzy math. Now that he has gotten an improved calculator, he is able to be more precise in his determination. But Camping has a large number of followers, and they have purchased thousands of billboards that say “The Bible Guarantees It.”

It seems that a relatively large number of people have decided to leave their families, their homes, and their jobs to join Camping and his followers in Oakland, California. Others have divested themselves of their life savings and sent them to the church. Along the way, they meet other believers and are forming a caravan across the nation. For me, I won’t be affected since I’ll be on vacation in Canada.
