Newt Gingrich will announce his bid to run for the Republican president nomination this coming Wednesday, according to his spokesman, Rick Tyler. Tyler also said that Gingrich will make his announcement on whether or not he is going to run for the 2012 GOP presidential nomination using Facebook and Twitter. Gingrich will then appear Wednesday night on the Sean Hannity Show on the Fox News Channel. Newt Gingrich and Fox News parted ways recently, ending his contract as a contributor, as Newt began becoming more serious about running for president.

Speculation on Gingrich making a run in 2012 has been floating around for many months now. The former House Speaker who led the Republican Party in 1994 to take back the Congress for the first time in 40 years did so drafting the famous Contract With America. A list of ten specific items he promised to act on in the first 100 days. Indeed he did, though only 8 of the items were eventually passed.

Newt has quite a bit of baggage with him as he enters the 2012 presidential race. He recently tried to explain away his previous marriage infidelity as due to his being ‘patriotic’ and working so hard. But he is a skilled politician with a firm grip on issues. Gingrich would be formidable in debates with other GOP candidates, as well as against Barack Obama.

While the Republican Party establishment might breathe easier with Newt Gingrich in the 2012 campaign, the big question is how will the Tea Party react? Gingrich spokesman, Rick Tyler, said today that Newt will announce his campaign on Wednesday via Facebook and Twitter. The former House Speaker will then appear with Sean Hannity on the Fox News Channel Wednesday evening to discuss his decision to run for president in 2012. Gingrich is certainly one of the ‘big guns’ in American politics. Despite his many personal foibles, his experience and command of the issues will carry much weight.
