Osama Bin Laden is dead! Sources are buzzing as information filters in about the death of the head of Al Qaeda. Early reports are that he was killed a week ago in a mansion outside of Islamabad, Pakistan. Some say either a bomb or Predator drone strike. Other say possibly a U.S. Special Forces attack killed him with gunfire. Either way, the United States recovered or took possession of his body. DNA tests now confirm that Osama Bin Laden is dead!
President Barack Obama appeared before the nation at about 11:36pm EDT to announce Bin Laden′s death. The terrorist leader has been one of the most wanted men on the planet, with a $25 Million dollar bounty on his head. According to President Obama, it was a ground attack that killed Bin Laden. During his address, Obama said that the operation was conducted earlier today against a remote compound in Pakistan. Obama does give credit to Pakistan in providing some of the intelligence which led to today′s events.
Osama Bin Laden helped found and finance Al Qaeda, an international terrorist group that has been responsible for some 47,000 killed and wounded victims in the past ten years, and several thousand prior to the attacks on 9/11. The attack against America on September 11, 2001, killed some 3,000 people, the bloodiest single day on American soil since Pearl Harbor.
Questions as to how the death of Osama Bin Laden will impact the global War on Terror are uncertain. Most of the more recent attacks against the West, as well as in other nations, have been conducted by the franchise group known as Al Qaeda of the Arabian Pennisula in Yemen. Many analysts say that Bin Laden has been out of the loop on operations for Al Qaeda for several years.
According to the latest reports, information leading to the death of Osama Bin Laden became more specific last August. As more intelligence narrowed potential hiding places, actionable intelligence pointing to a particular compound in Pakistan became available in the last 24 hours. United States Navy SEALs assaulted the compound, and after a brief firefight, located Osama Bin Laden, who was killed when picking up a weapon. Bin Laden was shot several times by the Navy SEALs. They then recovered his body and took it into custody.

Needless to say, details are still sketchy as to what and how it all went down. But this is certainly a glorious day! Osama Bin Laden has been brought to justice and has paid for his crimes with his life.
Kudos to the U.S. Military, CIA, and to our friends in Pakistan. Good news for Obama, too! He made the call and for once it was correct and paid off. hats off to General Petraeus, too, who recently started a new strategy of going after “mid-level management” for Al Qaeda and the Taliban.
Interestingly enough, the Taliban issued a statement earlier today about launching their spring offensive. How much that factored in on this remains to be seen.
But it is a good day and our sacred dead can rest easier now for they have had a measure of revenge.

Nice piece, Andy. I think that it will be hard for Al Qaeda to maintain itself long term now that its only unifying figure is dead, dead and gone.

Congratulations to our amazing and heroic troops, former President Bush and President Obama for this victory.
His death does bring a sense of peace, however a man that possesses this kind of evil deserves a fate far worse than death – I only wish such a fate was possible.

It was stated that over the past months when the U.S. informed the Pakistani government that we were launching drone attacks that Al-Queda was warned and had fled before the targets were hit.
Not a surprise.
They recently stopped informing them and they did not report this attack.
As we learn more about this raid (and I hope we do) it should be illuminating.

The most difficult thing that Andrew ever had to type.
Which goes to show who is on who’s side,
really.
But then again, you don’t have to type anything, Andrew. Why don’t you just shut up and go home?
May 2nd, 2011 at 5:03 am
Oh, Klo,
Are you just trying to be funny or are you insane?
A) I already am home!
B) I’m glad bin Laden is dead. But let’s face facts, he was going to die sooner or later. Obama got lucky. As you will see in my next article which will be posted shortly, the time line on this goes back a ways. One might ask why Obama waited so long before giving our troops the green light? But for now I’ll be generous and pat Obama on the back for a good job.

Micky: “Kudos to the U.S. Military, CIA, and to our friends in Pakistan.”
Our friends in Pakistan? Hmmm. Not so sure about that. You’ve probably heard, of course, that there are Taliban and Al Quaeda supporters and enablers in the higher levels of the Pakistan intelligence community.
Bigtime kudos need to be given to the Obama Administration for effectively circumventing this barrier. From what I’ve read over the years, it’s one that has thwarted many of our efforts.

To quote Hillary Clinton, from almost a year ago to the day, about the cooperation from Pakistan issue: “I believe that somewhere in this government are people who know where Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda is, where Mullah Omar and the leadership of the Afghan Taliban is and we expect more cooperation to help us bring to justice, capture or kill, those who attacked us on 9/11.”

Ginnie;
“Micky: “Kudos to the U.S. Military, CIA, and to our friends in Pakistan.”
Where did I say that ?

my bad, that was Andy’s quote from his article.

oops, another mistake…I was quoting Andy from his first post, not the article that preceded it. Too much coffee this morning! reading and typing too fast.
May 2nd, 2011 at 1:52 pm
Ginnie,
No problemo with the confusion, it’s been a heck of a day!
I was being nice since Obama gave them a shoutout last night during his address. How involved Pakistan was in this is dubious at best. They did help us get KSM and he was the source for finding the courier which led to the compound.
Seriously, we’re probably not going to know all the details for some time. I’m sure that at some point somebody who watched the real-time video, from either a satellite or Global Hawk or Predator, will write a book and give us the inside dope.
