The streets in London were packed as crowds gathered to watch the royal wedding of Kate Middleton to Prince William. Perhaps as many as two million people watched from jumbo-trons as another two billion people watched world wide the happy event. Princess Kate, or Katherine, has gone from being just a commoner to possibly being a future Queen of England. Her other fresh new titles include Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn and Baroness of Carrickfergus.

The weather cooperated as the predicted rain held off. The skies may have been cloudy but Princess Kate′s beaming smile was more than enough to brighten the day. Of course, the big news was her wedding gown, designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen. Her lovely sister, Pippa, was also by Burton. Kate wore a diamond tiara, on loan from Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William made his fashion statement, too, wearing a modified Irish Guard red tunic uniform along with a blue sash sporting a set of gold Royal Air Force wings. After the marriage ceremony at Westminster Abbey, the happy couple returned to Buckingham Palace in the same 1902 open horse-drawn carriage that William′s parents, Charles and Diana, used. Crowds cheered them all along the way.

Some well coordinated crowd control by London′s police force herded the massive crowd to Buckingham Palace, where all awaited the balcony appearance. Since Kate Middleton and Prince William did not kiss at Westminster Abbey during the royal wedding ceremony itself, the newlyweds were prompted by the teaming swarm for their first public kiss. After several minutes, they treated the crowd to a second, longer kiss. The Queen, newlyweds and the rest of the royal family ad guests returned inside following the Battle of Britain fly-over of a Lancaster bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane fighters, followed by a flight of four Tornado jet fighter-bombers. Whether you are into such spectacles or not, you have to hand it to the British. They do know how to put on a good show!
