Fred Thompson makes a big announcement on Tuesday that he is, well, opening a campaign headquarters in Nashville Tennessee. What I was hoping is this is the “Fred Thompson announces a presidential run” speech, but alas they want to keep building momentum with as many minor announcements as they can squeeze into an early presidential race.
Fine. Be that way. But what is clear is that Fred Thompson is running for president. He just hasn’t quite said the words yet.

Presidential Run to Come
See more on the presidential run at Stop the ACLU.
“Everything’s in place for Tuesday,” the source told WSMV. “There are three major events built around his announcement.” But Bob Davis, the Tennessee Republican Party Chairman, and Thompson’s former Chief of Staff says “There will not be an annoucement Tuesday.”
Give us a break, will you. Strategically it only helps to delay the presidential run if there is any doubt he will make it. That would build hopes into euphoria, but that cat is out of the bag now. Fred Thompson is running for President of the United States, so what are they waiting for now?

First off…thanks for the link. Now for comment:
you say… Strategically it only helps to delay the presidential run if there is any doubt he will make it. I disagree. I think he is playing smart moneywise. Why make an official announcment early when you can do the same thing all the other candidates are spending money on for free?

I understand your point, Jay, and thanks for the visit. At least the real announcement speech will be covered this way whenever he gets around to it, but the anticipation will be gone. It’s like staying for the top of the 9th when your team has a ten run lead. At least I hope he has enough sense NOT the make the announcement on YouTube.
