She’s every woman. Every woman that can afford a $1000 dollar tote that is. Making a trip to a parent teacher conference, Michelle Obama was seen sporting a Reed Krakoff tote, which by the way, is sold out worldwide simply because the FLOTUS carried it.
Ever since the Obama’s assumed the designation of “American Royalty”, the slobbering media (not just in America) has anointed Michelle Obama some sort of fashionista. I personally, just don’t see it. But whatever.
It’s funny how some days they want you to believe that the Obama family is just like everyone else; while other days they want you to know just how much of our daily lives are influenced by the power couple that is the Obama’s.
As Keith Koffler points out, Obama was praised once for wearing a $35 dollar dress on a Today Show appearance. Now she’s being lauded for selling out $1000 dollar totes.
Michelle Obama may or may not hold that much sway over the purchasing habits of women around the world, I don’t know. One thing I do know. If my wife were to come home with a $1000 dollar tote, I’d probably make sure that it was full, take it from her, and then hit her over the head with it.

Heck, Faye, she probably spends a grand on one of those ice cream sundaes with the gold leaf trimming! Her stupid husband flies Kobe steaks in fresh from Japan! They are just the most incredible snobs, like all Progressives.

You probably can’t even afford to buy your wife a $10 tote, Shannon. Why are we slamming the President’s wife, when rich pigs have taken over the country? Rich, Wall Street pigs. You know, the ones who have everybody’s houses, and everbody’s money, and half the wealth of the nation. These are the people that you should writing some silly crap like this about, Shannon.

“If my wife were to come home with a $1000 dollar tote, I’d probably make sure that it was full, take it from her, and then hit her over the head with it.”
Charming, in a 1950s misogynistic sort of way.
You forget that before her husband entered national politics Michelle Obama was a highly paid attorney, that she has her own money, and she can spend that money any way she chooses.

@TA
Don’t be so touchy. I didn’t say anything about how Michelle Obama spends her, their, his money. I don’t care.
The point of the post was to illustrate how ridiculous it is for her to be viewed as a “fashion icon”, not how much she spent on the tote.

Yes Klo, you see right through me. I’m jealous of Michelle Obama’s ability to purchase $1000 dollar handbags.

@ Shannon – C’mon now, every first lady is scrutinized for her fashion sense or lack thereof. Nothing unique about the attention given to Michelle.
March 11th, 2011 at 12:48 pm
Anti-Obama news must be fairly dry right if you’re resorting to this sort of dreck. Who cares if she bought a $1000.00 purse. I know ladies who don’t make near as much as she does who spend that kind of money on purses and such.
March 11th, 2011 at 12:52 pm
Now TA you know that special attention is given to democrat first ladies. Remember all the fuss about Hillary’s different hairstyles?
I don’t really remember seeing much coverage about Lara Bush’s fashion sense.
March 11th, 2011 at 1:02 pm
No Snow, there’s no shortage of things to blame or complain about O-Blah-ma. Just sometimes we need a chuckle.

Hillary was lambasted for her hairstyles, or lack of style….. remember those headbands? Sheesh. And as a candidate her pantsuits took on a life of their own. Barbara Bush had her pearls. Nancy Reagan was compared to a mannaquin. Laura Bush was picked on for being too frumpy.
Michelle Obama is youngest first lady we’ve had in decades. She often looks great, sometimes misses the mark, and gets attention either way.
I do, however, think it’s truly petty when she or any other first lady is criticized by her husband’s political opponents. I thought the same of the first Mrs. Bush, who seemed to be a class act and was basically criticized for not being young and hip enough.
Oh, and “democrat” is a noun, and I still find your comment about hitting your wife over the head for buying a purse truly out of touch.
Visions of the little woman at home waiting with your martini and slippers while you’re out earning the money she wastes.

Not only would he beat his wife with a purse, he would also make sure it’s full! He wants full impact, he wants to inflict as much pain as he can!
