In the first of it’s kind, the New Hampshire Republican Party committee members cast votes in an unscientific straw poll. Mitt Romney garnered 35%, giving him a nice victory over Ron Paul.
Paul managed 11% while Tim Pawlenty and Sarah Palin rounded out the top four. Others who received votes were Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Mike Pence, Mike Huckabee, Mitch Daniels and others.
Not exactly a big surprise that Mitt Romney would win in New Hampshire. If he does run for President, given the current crop of prospective GOP candidates I would expect him to win when the Nations first primary is held.
Of course a win or a loss in New Hampshire doesn’t always guarantee victory. George W. Bush lost the New Hampshire primary in 2000 to John McCain but carried the state against Gore. And of course who can forget the fact that Barack Obama, after stunning in Iowa, lost New Hampshire to Hillary Clinton.
I can only imagine what the media’s narrative will be with Mitt Romney winning the New Hampshire straw poll.

If I were Mitt, I would put too much stock in this straw poll.

He is the only viable candidate. If he can somehow convince the religious right in his own party that the Mormons are not a cult he has a chance.
Gotta admit he looks like he came out of central casting and he does have “presidential hair”. While it seems trivial, (and should be) every president since Kennedy has had a decent mane, (not including Ford, but he never had to campaign).
The fact he does not believe in evolution is a tad embarrassing on the world stage, but a lot of people in this country also embrace an “anti-science” point of view, so it won’t cost him any votes until the general election.

The NH Republican committee is not a good sample to assess the NH voter. It is establishment, which tends to favor the next in line establishment candidate. From what I read so far, being the establishment backed candidate will be a liability for 2012.

Mitt is a perfect example of someone who has sold his soul to the devil, for political gain. He was OK at first there when he was gov. of Mass., but somewhere along the line someone told him that, hey, if you want to be a Republican on the national scene, you gotta get in line, which he did. So if I were you, I wouldn’t want to have anything to do with this guy. He’s not crazy like you are; he’s just pretending to be.
