Here you can see the ship where the films were broadcast. Gay Rights and Women’s Rights groups are applauding the swift suspension of the USS Enterprise commander, and are demanding his removal from the post. Still, authorities have made it clear that any punishment will be set aside until the investigation is completed.

Captain Honors was temporarily suspended for his starring role in what’s now known as the Navy video scandal. In 2006, while second in command, he filmed a series of short skits that were broadcast on CCTV to the entire USS Enterprise. A typical tradition of naval excursions, the films are usually a little edgy, but the skits in question took the idea to a whole new level. Even then Executive Officer Honors admitted that some might take offense.

“This evening, all of you bleeding hearts … why don’t you just go ahead and hug yourselves for the next 20 minutes or so, because there’s a really good chance you’re gonna be offended,” he said.

Promoted to ship commander in May, Owen may now be facing a swift demotion from his post even before his first deployment. Spokesman for the naval branch, Commander Sims, was quick to distance the service from the errant officer.

“Those in command … are charged to lead by example and are held accountable for setting the proper tone and upholding the standards of honor, courage and commitment that we expect sailors to exemplify,” he said.
