Hey guess what? While you weren’t looking, while you were paying attention to the election and to taxes and bizarre behavior by President Obama, the democratic congress passed the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” because as Michelle Obama says, “We can’t just leave it up to the parents.”

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 13: (AFP OUT) U.S. President Barack Obama (L) kisses first lady Michelle Obama after delivering remarks and before signing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 at Harriet Tubman Elementary School December 13, 2010 in Washington, DC. In an effort to provide children with better school lunches and breakfasts, the new law puts $4.5 million in the hands of child nutrition programs, sets nutrition standards on school vending machines, helps create school gardens and makes sure that quality drinking water is available during meal times. Making sure kids eat right that is. Now with this legislation becoming law, the feds have the power to regulate what type of food your kids can eat at school even in the vending machines. Mrs. Obama spoke at the signing ceremony for the bill and declared that most parents are trying very hard to monitor what their children eat. They’re cutting down on desserts, and trying to increase fruits and vegetables. But….

There’s always a but with these people. Don’t worry though. If you can’t make sure your kids are eating right, the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” will do it for you. If you had planned to have your child break the Guinness Book Record for being buried in something larger than a piano case you’re out of luck. Michelle Obama isn’t going to let that happen.

Within the “Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” you’ll find all kinds of goodies. For instance, a new pilot program for “organic foods” in our kids schools, $4.5 billion in increased spending on school food programs, and The Department of Agriculture will design new school nutrition standards. Yummy!

The First Lady has been a fierce defender of your child’s health and weight since entering the White House. Whew! That’s just one less thing you’ve got to worry about as a parent. Pretty soon we won’t have to make one decision during our daily lives. These folks will take care of everything. Cradle to grave.

Because as Michelle Obama says, “We can’t just leave it up to parents.”
