A Middle Eastern intelligence service has recently intercepted letter being sent to the leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Hamza al-Muhajer, from the deputy leader of Al Qaeda, Ayman al-Zawahiri. In the letter Zawahiri is urging supporters in Iraq to expand their campaign of terror, and even extend their “holy war” to other Middle Eastern countries.
In an effort to “rally the troops? Zawahiri claims that Al Qaeda is defeating U.S. forces and says its time to turn his dream of an Islamic state, encompassing Lebanon, Palestine and Syria, a reality. Zawahiri is obsessed with the idea of creating new terrorist state he calls “Greater Syria?.
Obviously Zawahiri is counting on being able to take full advantage of the fact that the Islamo nut jobs in several hot spots in the Middle East are already either in the middle of, or getting ready for a fight with their various rivals. If Zawahiri’s minions are willing to put their own differences aside long enough to accept his challenge, a full scale war could envelope the entire Middle Eastern region.
Meanwhile, in Syria proper, President Bashar al-Assad is probably beginning to regret his role in aiding the Al Qaeda elements that have been creating havoc in the region because now the Al Qaeda types also are demanding that his government be overthrown.
