Creating the now viral video titled “Obama Kicks Door” spoofing the President’s reaction after extending the Bush Tax-Cuts, Jay Leno’s Tonight Show obviously faked the video but nailed the President’s reaction to the compromise. Get the full story, plus pictures and the viral video below!
Reneging on one of his core policy promises from his presidential campaign, the President announced last week that the Bush-Era tax-cuts for the wealthy will be extended. Prolonging the Republican-backed cuts, the President made headway in reaching a middle-ground between Democrats and the newly empowered Republicans.
“I am not willing to let working families across this country become collateral damage for political warfare here in Washington. The American people didn’t send us here to wage symbolic battles or win symbolic victories,” said the President in his speech.
Clearly frustrated by the measure, which has already caused a huge backlash in the Democratic party, The Tonight Show edited the video of the end of the speech, pretending that Obama kicks down a door as he leaves the stage, venting his frustration!
The President’s proposed two-year extension for the Bush tax cuts goes hand in hand with extensions for several stimulus programs including a 13-month extension for unemployment insurance and earned income tax credits. With a cost totaling about $200-$300 Billion, the new measure is being viewed as an overall positive sign for the administration. Even while some of the stimulus in this extension is really just a continuation of former programs, the important point is that Democrats and Republicans were able to come to a tenuous agreement on taxation and stimulus.
Hitting back at mutinous Democrats, the President insisted that compromise was the only way to accomplish anything over the next two years.
“Not everybody agrees with us. I know that shocks people…. It’s a big, diverse country and people have a lot of complicated positions, [that] means that in order to get stuff done, we’re going to compromise,” he said
