Kicking off the month with a controversial bang, NPR correspondent Juan Williams managed to get himself fired. NPR, saying they would not tolerate any racism from their employees, fired Williams for this comment on “The O’Reilly Factor.”

“Look, Bill, I’m not a bigot. You know the kind of books I’ve written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous.”

It’s tough to get away with saying that on national television! In other news, the once vaunted marriage of Brett Favre and his wife Deanna took a turn south as the veteran NFL quarterback admitted to leaving lewd voicemails on the phone of reporter Jenn Sterger. Also accused of sending lewd pictures to the reporter, the QB denied those accusations, but the scandal has left his marriage in a tenuous position.

Appearing on Good Morning America to talk about the issue for the first time publically, Deanna said she’s determined to get through the tough situation. Ironically, Deanna had been scheduled to appear on Good Morning America to promote her new book, “The Cure for the Chronic Life: Overcoming the Hopelessness That Holds You Back.”

“I’m a woman of faith. And faith has gotten me through many difficult struggles. It will get me through this one.”

If you’re worried that Deanna can overcome this difficult situation, don’t. She’s written the book on it! Of course, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the first of many memoirs of Justin Bieber in the October quotables. The young tween legend chronicled his rise to stardom with his highly anticipated book, and surprised absolutely no-one with insights on his audacious rock-star behavior.

“Singers aren’t supposed to have dairy before a show, but we all know I’m a rule-breaker.”

Finally, making our list just yesterday was President Obama. Appearing on the Daily Show to talk elections with host Jon Stewart, the President got into a slightly tense tet-au-tet with the host over the relative success of his first two years in office. Replying to Jon’s question about the disparity between his message of “hope and change” and the relatively timid legislative actions taken so far, the President firmly stated:

“Jon, I love your show, but this is something where, you know, I have a profound disagreement with you,” Obama said. “And I don’t want to lump you in with a lot of other pundits, but this notion that health care is timid …” Later finishing, “when I say that when we promised during the campaign, change you can believe in, it wasn’t change you can believe in in 18 months …What I would say is, ‘Yes, we can’, but it is not going to happen overnight.”

The 30-minute appearance ahead of the Nov. 3 was obviously aimed to inspire young voters as well as validate Obama’s time in office so far. Will it upset the seemingly unalterable Republican victory next month? We’ll have to wait and see.

There you have it! These are out best blurbs of the month. Do you have any October quotables to add to our list? Let me know in the comment section after you check out the pictures and video below!
