This past weekend was a busy one for President Barack Obama. Saturday included his 52nd golf outing since becoming president. Obama got in a round of 18 holes of golf at Andrews Air Force Base, presumably so nobody could see how badly he plays. But Sunday was the real ‘fun’ day for President Obama. Appearing at a campaign rally in Philadelphia with Joe Biden, not only did Obama had to contend with a streaker (who apparently was to be paid $1 million dollars by Alki David for an Internet stunt) but he also had a book thrown at him. The security breach raises many issues.

Look carefully at the book near Obama’s head. Additional close-up below.

Obama also was busy avoiding the economy, or at least any responsibility for it. Attempting to inspire his base to vote in the November 2010 mid term elections, the President led the crowd in the usual chanting of simple platitudes. However, these lack the substance of addressing the many failures of the Obama administration’s economic policies.

Since his old attacks of blaming Bush and more recent ones blaming John Boehner haven’t gelled, Obama is now shifting to blaming Karl Rove and GOP fund raising. As if they are responsible for the Obama stimulus program failing to improve the economy. No, sorry, it just doesn’t wash.

The Democrats campaigning this year are avoiding all talk about the economy and Obama’s main legislative victory, health care reform. Polls show by margins of 2-to-1 or more that the American people consider Obama’s economic policy a failure and want health care reform repealed. So the basic message from them has been that they are the only ones who can take America forward and Republicans will take us backwards. Obama even stooped so low as to use the analogy of an automatic transmission, D is fro driving forward and R for going in reverse.

With unemployment at chronically high levels push 10% or more, depending who you believe, some are starting to think that maybe going backwards may not be such a bad idea. Before the Democrats took control of the House and Senate in 2006, the economy was still growing with unemployment at or below 5%.

So Barack Obama had a busy weekend. Golf on Saturday and a rally with Joe Biden on Sunday in Philadelphia. But trying to rekindle 2008 with worn out slogans is not working. It’s not even stopping people from streaking naked (even if not paid a million dollars by Alki David for an Internet stunt) or tossing objects like a book at Obama. He has reduced the dignity of the presidency to that of a circus sideshow atmosphere. Maybe Obama should consider Jerry Springer to be his new White House Chief of Staff?
