Bill Maher dug up and aired an old video clip of Christine O’Donnell talking about how she once “dabbled in witchcraft”. The clip was shown on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” and was from 1999 when she appeared on his old ABC show, “Politically Incorrect”. O’Donnell describes how she once dated a man while in high school who was a practicing witch. She tells Maher how they “went to a movie and then had a little picnic on a Satanic altar.” Christine O’Donnell recently won the GOP primary for a U.S. Senate seat in Delaware with much support from the Tea Party and an endorsement from Sarah Palin.
Christine O’Donnell has been slammed hard by nearly everyone, from the Far Left to GOP Establishment and Beltway Insiders. Her stance on big government spending, welfare, morality and other issues have been referred to as too extreme by many. The professional political pundit class claim that she is completely unelectable due to her positions on issues as well as a sorted past which allegedly includes some bad financial problems.
All through this muck raking, Christine O’Donnell continues to fight back and despite heavy-handed smear campaigns from her opponent, Congressman Mike Castle (R-DE), she pulled off an upset victory by a sizable margin.
Her scheduled appearances for Sunday on both CBS “Face the Nation” and “Fox News Sunday” of the Fox News Channel were cancelled late Friday. Her campaign said that the cancellations were due to scheduling problems as Christine O’Donnell was exhausted after the hard won primary and other events this past week, including speaking to the Value Voter Summit in Washington DC. The speech given Friday night was to the highly motivated social conservatives.
Today, she instead turned up at a GOP picnic where she made light of the Bill Maher video clip. “How many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school?” she asked jokingly. Christine O’Donnell is proving once again that many of the criticisms are actually benefits which may endear her more to the public, especially Independent voters. Like ordinary people, she’s had financial problems. She’s also done silly things in high school.
Bill Maher aired video of Christine O’Donnell talking of witchcraft. So she dated a guy in high school and the had a picnic involving some sort of ’satanic’ altar. I seriously doubt if she knew the difference being Wiccans and Satanists or Luciferians at that age in her life. It was a teenage lark at worst. Once again another attempt to smear her goes down in flames. The Left and Right Establishment hate her because she is cozy with the Tea Party and Sarah Palin.

Yeah your opinion would be totally different if this was connected with someone you do not support. Thing of it is, at least this is factual; most of conservatives’ smears are lies.
September 19th, 2010 at 1:52 pm
@ Klo
While it may be “factual” that a young girl in high school may have dated some young guy in high school with kooky ideas, I would hardly call that a relevant issue today.
Now, Barack Obama, as an adult, spending 20 years in a goofy church with a goofy pastor preaching kooky ideas up until just before being elected is not:
A) A “conservative” “lie”
B) Irrelevant
C) a “smear”
It is quite factual and tells us much about him. How he thinks, how he acts. Not back when he was in high school but now, TODAY!
A similar case for Barack Obama to Christine O”Donnell’s would be more like the episode he wrote about in his autobiography where he pushed a young, ‘chubby’ black girl to the ground in junior high because he did not like her being romantically interested in him. Now that, while being as factual as this Christine O’Donnell-witchcraft story, it is also as irrelevant.
September 19th, 2010 at 2:28 pm
Its pretty normal that young people would romanticize around the pagan or wiccian themes and has been an “in” phenommena among not only some countercultural types but thoughtful serious people as well. She showed some flexibility and ability to adapt in doing so. Like Stephen Cobert tells some conservative guests who bomb out during his interviews in his shows, “know your audience”. I really don’t see the big deal here. I don’t believe she is in any coven now other than the tea party.

Good grief man.

Bill Maher seems to be the new face of establishment Republicanism, with his best budd Karl Rove as his side-kick. Will they both go to Delaware “in person” to campaign for Chris Coons? And take Krauthammer & O’Reilly with them?
September 19th, 2010 at 3:46 pm
Sir Charles Krauthammer should never be subjected to such inadequate comparisons.
He is the most sane human there is

This is one of those cases where I wish I knew what actually happened that O’Donnell interpreted as Satanic altars and witchcraft.
O’Donnell seems to be a lovely, well-meaning goofball, but let’s face it– she’s a goofball.
As for the “smears”– the allegations that she used her campaign money for stuff like rent and bowling and gas/mileage WAY after the campaign ended (and even though she didn’t have a car)– and that she didn’t have a treasurer as required by law… that came from former campaign workers who quit after being horrified at what he saw
And that O’Donnell has thusfar provided no explaination– it doesn’t look good for her. Not that I’m saying she should be prosecuted for inappropriate use of funds, just that it seems she like Palin has a casual acquaintance with the truth and isn’t particularly responsible with money.
September 19th, 2010 at 4:35 pm
Wow. This is awesome. Christine O’Donnell, Al Franken, Rick Schroder, and Bill Maher.
In one room.

“This is one of those cases where I wish I knew what actually happened that O’Donnell interpreted as Satanic altars and witchcraft.”
Who cares, she was in high school. What were you into at 17 ?
Its not like she was covorting around with terrorists, marxists, black liberation theologists, radical Muslims and making shady reals estate deals and offering 845 billion to 3rd world nations disguised as a poverty tax, 0.7 of our GDP for 10 years.
“O’Donnell seems to be a lovely, well-meaning goofball, but let’s face it– she’s a goofball.”
Thank God shes not 3rd in line for the presidency.
Oh, wait. Never mind.

Unfortunately if even all of that is true.
Palins doing us a favor by steering us from what could be certain disaster.
It wont be the first time weve seen a pol say they averted certain disaster with mediocre applications.
Thats if you wanna call a trillion plus mediocre.
Bottom line is this.
Rove does in fact have good suggestions for Christine, she should listen to him and both of them knock off this sparring match. Its not helping. Coons with one of the most liberal spending records would be exactly what the people dont want and need right now. And mind you, I’m only mentioning his spending habits.
Whats also unfortunate is that were seeing a choice between the lesser of two evils, votes based on the lesser amount of misbehavior rather than the majority of accomplishments. That aid theres not much out there that could be worse than Coons.
As long as theirs Marion Berrys and the like on the left I suggest they sht can the stone casting. Jeez, after everthing they freeking elected him all over again, and again

Ok, ok, she dabbled in “witchcraft”, so says Bill “night” Maher, but we still haven’t heard O’Donnell’s side of the story or what Bill Maher’s intention of putting this out is. That aside, I would like to know a few other things about her:
1. Is she for cutting taxes?
2. Is she for repealing obamacare?
3. Is she for growing the economy?
4. Is she for a strong national defense?
5. Is she for paying down the deficit?
6. Is she for bringing back manufacturing
jobs to the U.S.?
7. Is she for enforcing immigration law?
8. Is she pro-life?
9. Is she pro small business?
10. Is she against cap & trade?
This is the only thing that should matter to all Americans, her personal life and what she did when she was younger being used against her is a cheap ploy to hurt her and take attention away from the real issues above. Everyone did stupid things when they were young including Bill Maher.
Hell, i’d bet all the chics he’s been with have more skeletons in their closets than O’Donnell ever will, he should be more concerned about them, since he’s in their company & having intimate moments with them.
If he was as concerned about the chics he keeps company with as he is about O’Donnell he wouldn’t be gettin l@id, because all the chics he keeps company with are nuts just for being with him, can you therefore imagine the skeletons they must have? He’s the last one who should be saying anything, he’s a psychotic narcissist!
September 19th, 2010 at 5:38 pm
Ok, ok, she dabbled in “witchcraft”, so says Bill “night” Maher, but we still haven’t heard O’Donnell’s side of the story
For the record, Bill didn’t say she said it. She’s on video saying it. Second, she was not 17 when she SAID she dabbled in witchcraft. She was an adult saying this on national television! It’s one thing to say “when I was a teenager I was so dumb I actually thought I was dabbling in witchcraft and hanging out on a Satanic altar– can you believe that? But obviously, when I got older and realized I was totally naive, and here’s what really happened… what I thought was a satanic altar was actually XYZ and what I thought was witchcraft (seriously!) was ABC.”
No, she said “I dabbled in witchcraft”. Who knows, maybe she really did hang out with satanists and Wiccans (two VERY different religions)… but to me it’s a bit far-fetched. I’d really like to know the actual story behind that.
As for Ron’s checklist above… isn’t it really a question of “does she understand any of those things” and “Will she say what she thinks she needs to say to get elected”?
If he was as concerned about the chics he keeps company with as he is about O’Donnell he wouldn’t be gettin l@id, because all the chics he keeps company with are nuts just for being with him,
Huh?
can you therefore imagine the skeletons they must have? He’s the last one who should be saying anything, he’s a psychotic narcissist!
Seriously, do you read what you type to see if they make any sense or do you start a sentence and then figure “hey, lets see where this goes together!!”? I mean, let’s try to follow the logic: “IF he were concerned about women he is associated with…” “…he wouldn’t be getting laid….” because “chicks he keeps company with are nuts”… “because they’re with him”… which leads naturally to “they must have skeletons” which of course means “he’s a narcissist”, and therefore logically, “he’s the last one who should be saying anything.”
Wow, that’s some brain diarrhea.
Anyway, for someone who’s supposedly into “morality” (which means “my understanding of morality as interpreted by my understanding of the bible”), I wonder where in the bible it talks about using campaign money after a campaign ends to pay for bowling and gas for cars you don’t own while stiffing the people who your campaign still owes money.
September 19th, 2010 at 5:48 pm
“If he was as concerned about the chics he keeps company with as he is about O’Donnell he wouldn’t be gettin l@id,”
Yeah, got that part.
” because all the chics he keeps company with are nuts just for being with him,”
True
” can you therefore imagine the skeletons they must have?”
Yeah, I guess if you’d fck Bill you’d fck a Mahimahi.
” He’s the last one who should be saying anything, he’s a psychotic narcissist!”
Or simply thinks his sht donr stink.

Bill Clinton dabbled in Gennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, Monica Lewinsky and a host of others.
So what’s Bill Maher’s point? A high school kid dabbling in witchcraft is somehow more important than a lothario leading the free world? His priorities are out of whack!!!
September 19th, 2010 at 5:57 pm
obama dabbled in cocaine, sleeping on the streets of Manhattan, socialism, communism, and whatever else he dabbled in. If this is waht we do know about obama, what more is there we do not know?
@ Me, stick to the issues, that’s what will effect all of us, not what an impressionable teen dabbled in.
Bill Maher is going to hold her over a barrel until she comes on his show, what a loser….goes to show you what type of person he is, and he talks about everyone else. Maybe he’s just ascended himself from narcissist to megalomaniac…
September 19th, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Hmmm… I sense some serious residual teen truama in this women.
Didnt the Satanic rituals come right before the self gratification/Jesus stump ?
Did the demonistic blood gargling orgies get to her ? Are they still getting to her ?
And maybe, if so, explains her bizarre behavior over the years following ?
Is she due for an exorcism ?
September 19th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
Micky you joke about exorcisms, but I suspect she believes that they are real.
@ Me, stick to the issues, that’s what will effect all of us, not what an impressionable teen dabbled in.
I’m not worried about being “effected” by her dabblings. I’m worried that she thought she dabbled in witchcraft in the first place. I keep wondering what actually happened? Did she make out with some dude and then realized he listened to Black Sabbath? Did she confuse a kitchen island for a “Satanic altar”?
As far as “the issues”– her web site tells us she’s your garden-variety extreme right wing social conservative, full of vagaries and platitudes. She’s against “pork-barrel politics”, just like all conservatives who haven’t ever sat in Congress. She’s for honesty and fiscal responsibility, but apparently not with respect to her own educational background or campaign finances.
I find her very personably likable, in an earnest go-getter kind of way. But from what I’ve seen of her, she’s pretty clueless and pretty wrongheaded on the issues that you ask I stick to.

“Micky you joke about exorcisms, but I suspect she believes that they are real.’
Good grief, I was mocking the hysteria and you came right along and added to it.
