Sarah Palin is heading to Iowa in September. She’ll be the featured speaker at the Iowa Republican Party’s annual fall fundraiser on September 17, 2010. Her political action committee has indicated that she is planning a more active campaign schedule in the fall. Read more below and see photos and a video.
Sarah Palin is heading to Iowa and people are speculating about what exactly that means. Of course, in the immediate it means she’s the headliner for the Iowa Republican party’s annual fundraiser on September 17th. But does it mean she’s starting a campaign for the Iowa caucuses? Her CPAC has said she’ll be starting a more aggressive fall campaign schedule. Make of that what you will.
The Iowa caucuses are still 18-months away, but we might remember that Barack Obama’s presidential campaign went on for at least 2 years. Other potential Republican candidates have already been laying the groundwork for a run in Iowa including Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Tim Pawlenty.
For those who write Palin off as damaged goods, you might do well to remember that she has won every time she’s run for office on her own. The only times she has lost has been when she has been someone else’s running mate. I think its a mistake to under-estimate Sarah Palin.

I think that if Sarah wants the nomination, she’s got it. I assume she would have a horde of volunteers in each state, would handily win every caucus, and it would be almost impossible for anyone to go after her positions in a debate.

She might get the nomination, but she won’t win. I believe with all my heart she should wait until 2016 to run…otherwise, we have Obama for 2 terms
September 1st, 2010 at 3:45 pm
She wont win because
1)
Although I agree with her, shes not quite ready.
2)Liberals vote to make statements, and not a difference. So, they’d probably launch their own woman candidate and all the liberals vote her just because shes a woman, regardless of qualifications…
sound familiar ?
The reluctance from the right combined with as many a$$hats that voted for dickhead just because hes black (which made us look tolerant and diverse) could prove to be a problem

i doubt there’ll be an Obama second term (although we certainly can’t take that for granted). I’ve heard he doesn’t want to run because he doesn’t like being ‘President’. He prefers campaigning and doesn’t like all the ‘responsibility’ and being tied down to having to make difficult decisions.
Still – we can’t take that for granted and need someone who can win. Palin does have baggage. I just think its a mistake to underestimate her.
September 1st, 2010 at 4:16 pm
Okay Beth, I’m curious. What baggage??
September 1st, 2010 at 4:24 pm
Flyingmonkey – the ‘baggage’ I was referring is not hers so much as what has been thrust upon her by the left. She’s been a target for a couple of years now and the lies about her have become ‘fact’ in the eyes of many people. For instance, the Saturday Night Live skits with Tina Fey are attributed to Palin. A lot of people think that Palin said she could see Russia from her house – it was Tina Fey that said that. The lines got blurred between fact and fantasy by a complicit media corp that did a good job of defining Palin to the public at large.
Its ridiculous, of course. Everything they said about her was true of Obama and Biden, but they painted them as something different and Palin as the inexperienced blunderer. They make fun of her hand notes while ignoring Obama’s CONSTANT reading from a teleprompter. They key in on a statement made by a comedian, attributed to Palin and ignore Obama saying we have 57 states.
So – I guess its not her personal ‘baggage’. Its the public perception that she’d have to overcome. I think she can overcome it because I think she’s one of the best politicians in the country. She has a keen sense and connection with the people.
But its still there and something she’ll have to deal with if she runs for national office. IMO

This is why I think she can overcome the constant attacks of the left (plus, check out her legs!)

I understand where you’re coming from Beth but I think most of those points are now moot.
Newspaper readership is at an all time low as well as newscast viewership of the MSM. People are paying more attention now than ever and they don’t trust the media anymore.
In the mean time, FNC continues to dominate the ratings, the WSJ is doing just fine and more people are listening to talk radio than ever. And of course, there’s the Internet.
As a VP running mate that woman was vetted like no candidate ever before, and they found nothing but a pregnant daughter. She was able turn that into lemonade.
I don’t believe the MSM could get away with it again. Fool me once, shame on me…

Our first female “conservative” president would be something the left would never stand for.
It would be a rank and moment history that they feel is their birthright to own.
If anyone thinks the left is rabid now I’ll bet what weve seen will be put to shame if Palin announces.
September 1st, 2010 at 5:11 pm
Good points, fm. I agree with you. I was just trying to not be overly optimistic and look at it from the downside.
I think you are right micky – she’ll be attacked like none other. But she already has been. She’s tough and can handle them, imo.
They have gone through everything in her life. They sent teams to Alaska to find dirt on her and came up with nothing.
I would LOVE to see her be President. She has what it takes and is the type of person we need. I worry about the attacks and the visceral hatred towards her from the left. They are terrified of her!

I hate I can’t get that link to that picture to work. I thought you guys would like it – plus the comments were a good indication of why people like her so well.

There – got the link to work.

She will never be president because…..

I do not disagree that the left wing will be out to get her, and that they will be merciless. But they’ll go after any candidate, and Palin has a way of doing herself in like no other.

TA, that was just another freaking far left rag that framed everything in a light they could use.
Pretty fcking lame.
As a matter of fact due to Russias close proximity to Alaske she was as governor in charge of the largest coastline guarded by the largest coast guard and national guard in the country.
September 2nd, 2010 at 12:38 pm
I agree, that’s lame. And yes, Russia IS right over the border from Alaska. You might need to get out a world map and take a look-see to get better educated on geography.
