In Gainesville, Florida, the Dove World Outreach Center plans to hold a Burn Quran Day. General David Petraeus warns that the event may imperil the lives of U.S. troops. Pastor Terry Jones, head of the controversial church, is organizing the burning of the Quran, or Koran, to commemorate the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Protests in kabul and other cities have begun. The Holy Quran is the principle text of the Islamic faith and considered one of the major world religious books. The outrage by the Muslim community, and others, say this act is akin to the Nazi book burning in 1930s Germany. The church vows to burn the Quran despite being denied a permit by city officials.

CAIRO, EGYPT - FEBRUARY 25: An open Quran, the Muslim holy book, lies open on the tomb of the Fatimid 12th century Islamic saint Muhammad al-Ga'fari on February 25, 2009 in Cairo, Egypt. Despite being known primarily for its Pharaonic monuments, some almost 5,000 years old, the country has a rich Islamic heritage. The various Muslim dynasties, which ruled the country since its capture from the Byzantines by the Muslim Arabs in 639 AD until the demise of the Ottoman Turks at the end of the First World War, have left the country with hundreds of splendid buildings erected by the ruling elite of more than 1,200 years. Gainesville’s Interim Fire Chief, Gene Prince, said this past Wednesday that the open burning of books is not allowed under the city’s burning ordinance. He added that the church will be fined if it goes ahead with it’s plans. The church sent out an email telling it’s recipients “City of Gainesville denies burn permit — BUT WE WILL STILL BURN KORANS.”

The church, Dove World Outreach Center, made news last year when they produced and distributed t-shirts with the statement “Islam is of the Devil.” Pastor Jones sees the rise of Islamic militants worldwide as a major threat. In the video below, Jones walks us through many recent incidents and statements by Muslim leaders.

He sees Islam as more of a political force disguised as a religion. A dangerous and violent political force, at that. Jones warns that America is facing becoming an Islamic nation. He points to how Muslims are becoming a significant and dominating population in Europe. How Sharia Law is gaining acceptance in England.

Pastor Jones details ten specific reasons why the Quran should be burned. Number One is the fact that the Koran does not recognize Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Number Six is that Islamic Law is totalitarian in nature. There is no separation between church and state. Finally, Number Ten is that Islam has a clear objective of world domination. To discriminate against and destroy those of other faiths.

General David Petraeus says that this Quran burning may imperil U.S. troops. Protests in Kabul and other cities are begun. So, is the church vow to burn Quran the same as Nazi book burning? Why does the Dove World Outreach Center not recognize the Holy Quran, the principle text of Islamic faith, a major world religious book? Is Pastor Terry Jones off-base planning to commemorate 9/11 with a Burn Quran Day? Is the Gainesville, Florida Fire Chief, Gene Prince, violating free speech not issuing a permit for the event? The controversy rages on!
