Jessica Botzko and John Westover of Toledo, Ohio, were jailed and charged with child endangerment after her 10-year-old son told investigators he was tired of being put in a dog cage. Police did in fact discover a cage, less than 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, and had a chain across the top with two locks on each end.

The little boy, with his 5 year old brother in tow, ran away from home Tuesday night when their father was away and their mother was busy dancing at a local strip club. They were found just a few blocks away on a neighbor’s porch, and that when authorities were summoned.

Court documents revealed that at least once the 10-year-old boy was also made to wear a remote-controlled shock collar while inside the cage and was repeatedly shocked. Apparently Botzko and Westover used this cage as a form of punishment, and according to the boy, he also was caged when his father was using or making drugs.

Westover, who has an extensive record, was already wanted on a child endangering charge in suburban Toledo. The couple also had a daughter who tragically died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) a few years ago, and now police plan to take another look at her death.
