As Summer winds down and we begin to look forward to fall and cooler weather, there’s one more event that I’m sure our readers are looking forward to. And no I’m not talking about another Obama vacation although that’s likely. National Rum Day is August 16th and what better way to spend a lazy summer afternoon than with a nice refreshing Rum cocktail? This is an open talk thread, you can discuss whatever you’d like, perhaps one of you has an interesting Rum drink recipe to share with the rest of us dolts; or maybe you just want to vent about Michelle Obama’s Queen complex.

I ran across a couple of interesting blogs and recipes in honor of National Rum Day. I’ll link to a few for your viewing pleasure. There’s nothing quite like a nice Rum cocktail to give you that down in the Carribean feeling. Especially as hot as it’s been this summer.

Whether you like Mai Tai’s, Rum Runners, Beachcombers, Mojito, or everybody’s favorite Pina Colada, Rum is the spirit for all occasions. Then of course there’s the whole debate about which Rum is best. Dark Rum, Light Rum, or even which brand to call your own. Bacardi, Captain Morgan, Malibu, it’s your choice.

Instapundit has a link to a recipe I may give a shot called a Dark and Stormy. I love ginger beer, haven’t had any in a while and National Rum Day will be just the occasion to grab a six pack and try out this drink. I’m sure some of you guys have had it and wonder what rock I’ve been living under. So let’s hear it in the comments, what’s the best, what’s the worst.
