Let’s be realistic. There are some places safe enough for Barack Obama to campaign. Chicago would appear to be one of those places. It’s been learned that Obama will stump for Alexi Giannoulias early next month with the Illinois Treasurer lagging way behind Mark Kirk in fundraising.

Before the rally, the workers marched through the city's financial district calling for job creation and financial reform. Giannoulias is running to replace Sen. Obama is like an albatross hanging around the necks of democrats this election season, but Chicago is his hometown, Alexi Giannoulias is running for his old Senate seat, he’s got to go. Giannoulias’ campaign manager said that Obama will help Illinois voters see the clear choice that lay ahead of them. Meaning they can vote for Alexi Giannoulias or vote for Mark Kirk who wants to take them back to the “same old failed Bush policies.”

As of June 30th, Republican Mark Kirk had raised $2.3 million dollars to Alexi Giannoulias’ $900,000. We’ve learned that Obama can do one thing well if nothing else; raise money. The decision for Obama to stump for Giannoulias was announced shortly after the financial reports showed Giannoulias far behind Kirk in fundraising.

To see the latest poll numbers on the Illinois Senate race you can go here. It’s unclear whether the decision to have Obama campaign for Giannoulias is a sign of desperation by the democrat or if he really thinks the President will help him get over the hump. Giannoulias should be dominating this race but he’s not. My guess is it’s simply a money thing. Obama will be calling in a few favors to help the Giannoulias make up some of the monetary deficit he faces against Mark Kirk.
