When John Kerry ran for President in 2004, his inability to connect with voters was shocking. He combined long-winded oratory, a tedious speaking style, and a complete lack of empathy to anyone who did not share his social status or his ideological perspective. His campaign took Democratic constituencies for granted. Kerry was stunned when he was defeated.

After the 2008 election, Kerry decided to take charge of climate change legislation. It’s sort of nice to know that people don’t change their personalities. Democratic senators told Politico today that he is trying to force carbon cap legislation upon them, when many Democrats are looking for energy only legislation. They complain that Kerry has an inability to understand the constituencies that are in play in states other than Massachusetts.
