North Carolina Congressman Bob Etheridge (2nd District), a Democrat, was attending a fund raiser for Nancy Pelosi this weekend when two college student approached him on the sidewalk with ‘flipcam’ video recorders. He was asked if he supported the Obama agenda. This sent Congressman Etherridge into a raging bully mode, first grabbing one student by the wrist, then by the scruff of his neck. “Who are you?”, Etheridge kept asking. As if that matters.

Today, the Congressman issued an apology. “I deeply and profoundly regret my reaction, and I apologize to all involved. Throughout my many years of service to the people of North Carolina, I have always tried to treat people from all viewpoints with respect. No matter how intrusive and partisan our politics can become, this does not justify a response. I have and I will always work to promote civil public discourse.”

The two college students remain anonymous. They did contact Andrew Breitbart’s website, biggovernment.com to post their video of the incident. However, Breitbart denies that either work for him.

The incident shows the thin-skin of Congressman Bob Etheridge. Last year during the health care debate, Etheridge held a town hall meeting on August 12, where he got testy with a veteran of the U.S. Marines. Etheridge dismissed the Marine’s criticism of supporting the Obama health care agenda by repeatedly asking the Marine if he himself had government supplied health care. Etheridge’s opponent this November is Republican candidate Renee Ellmers commented on the incident. “As a mom, I am very concerned about what happened to those college kids.”
