It wasn’t exactly the Battle of Agincourt, but it came pretty close! Dr. Rand Paul, son of Congressman Ron Paul, soundly defeated Trey Grayson in the Kentucky GOP Senate primary. The race was over as soon as the polls closed. With strong support from Tea Party activists, Paul easily walked away with a victory of the Kentucky Secretary of State. Despite endorsements from Sen. Mitch McConnell and other Beltway insiders, Grayson did not have a chance! Paul won by more than 20% points!

Rand Paul had the support of retiring Sen. Jim Bunning and former Gov. Sarah Palin. He also had the Tea Party and those Libertarian-leaning Republicans who campaigned hard for Ron Paul in his 2008 presidential bid. Paul will face Tom Conway in November for the general election. Other ‘Establishment’ candidates faced a tough night. Arlen Spector lost his run against Joe Sestak for the Democratic U.S. Senate run in Pennsylvania. Spector had switched parties to run as a Democrat, fearing a defeat at the hands of Pat Toomey.
