The 80 year old staple of “The View”, Barbara Walters says that she will undergo heart surgery later this week. Walters says she’ll be having a heart valve replaced which is a fairly common procedure these days. Barbara Walters heart surgery was announced by her on “The View” Monday.

Walters says that she hadn’t been feeling any different than normal lately but an echocardiogram showed that her valves were getting tighter and smaller. Walters went on to say that she wasn’t scared, but that she was just ready to get it over with.

Heart valve replacements are fairly common; one source says that there are over 250,000 valve replacements each year in the world with a mortality rate of just 2.4%. So while it is a serious thing to have any type of heart surgery, Barbara Walters heart surgery may not be as dangerous as it seems at first glance.

Certainly Barbara Walters age is a factor, like I said before she’s reached the ripe old age of 80. But those who know her say she’s in great health and great shape; I’d also like to add that Walters looks absolutely terrific to be 80 years old.

While I may not necessarily agree with Walters political views, and certainly not with her show “The View”, I can say with all sincerity that I wish her all the best with her surgery. Exactly what day Barbara Walters heart surgery will take place was not divulged, but we’ll try to keep you up to date right here.
