They aren’t pedophiles. The Jonas Brothers, Obama’s target for a ‘Predator Drone’ joke during the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, aren’t laughing.

“Seriously, we’re not pedophiles,” Joe Jonas told the Washington Examiner when asked about the President’s routine.

The joke, delivered during the May 1 dinner, didn’t only seem inappropriate to the abstinence-vowed Jonas Brothers, but critics of predator drones weren’t giggly over it, either.

“The Jonas Brothers are here. They’re out there somewhere,” Obama said. “Sasha and Malia are huge fans. But, boys, don’t get any ideas. I have two words for you — predator drones. You will never see it coming. You think I’m joking.”

The Jonas Brothers have made a public acknowledgment of their vows for abstinence until marriage by wearing purity rings. In a Details Magazine article in 2008, Joe said the ring represents “promises to ourselves and to God that we’ll stay pure till marriage.”

That purity vow also includes children under the age of 12, like Sasha and Malia.

The media loved Obama’s performance, however. They were nearly frothy mouthed with admiration, a tone apparent in Lloyd Grove’s piece at The Daily Beast.

Even correcting for an undoubtedly unfair comedy advantage (in which any joke uttered by any president is automatically five notches funnier than the same one that slipped off the tongue of a mere mortal), Obama is a natural entertainer who has, among all the other things he has been doing in the past year, sharpened his comic timing and delivery.

Absolutely because comic timing and delivery, not lower unemployment or lowering debt or decreasing deficit before China owns everything or responsible government spending or protecting the nation or creating economic growth or responding timely to environmental messes, is exactly what makes a great President. Darn it, he reads jokes well, jokes written by someone else, jokes written by a veteran The Daily Show writer, and that’s all we need to be happy.

If not for the drone comments in the joke, liberals might still be in giggling ecstasy.

“It’s funny, because predator drone strikes in Pakistan have killed literally hundreds of completely innocent civilians,” Alex Pareene wrote, sarcastically, on Salon.com. “And now, the president is evincing a casual disregard for those lives he is responsible for ending by making a lighthearted joke.”

So the Jonas Brothers, Obama’s target along with Jay Leno, Michael Steele Sarah Palin, Joe Biden, birthers, and his own plummeting approval numbers, weren’t the only ones not laughing at the ‘Predator Drone’ joke.
