Dana lives in two worlds that are apposing and culturally divided. A world where he clubs at night with a generation turned off by Politics and a world during the day where he is prepping the Political landscape for a generation that will decide current and future elections. You may have seen him at Dream Nightclub in DC. You May have heard him on Radio One, or seen him in your ‘Hood’ during the NWA, RUN DMC, Public Enemy, LL and Beastie Boys Tours. Maybe you danced to his songs for Salt N Pepa/ Kid N Play, the New York Knicks ‘Go NY Go’ jingle, the Michael Jordan comeback jingle, and a Sprite spot. He even has credits for work on Hip Hop’s groundbreakers ‘House Party’ and ‘NY Undercover’. But what most ‘Up in da’ club’ do not know is that after the last song is played , Dana gets busy implementing successful strategy to push the collective conciseness of Hip Hop to the limits-in the White House. His approach not only achieved commercial success, but success with Big City Mayors, White House Cabinet Members, powerful members of Congress, and Presidents of Africa; and it all began when Hip Hop was ‘Barely on Wax’. In 1989 he won Rap’s first Environmental Award from The Houston International Film Festival for creating a Rap project about the vanishing Rain Forests with the prestigious Smithsonian Institution and World Wildlife Fund. In 1980, he caught the attention of Radio One’s CEO/Founder Cathy Hughes who hired when Radio One was founded to tackle the lack of FCC concern for Localism and Media Diversity. As a result, he becomes the youngest in the Nation to host a radio show on a major market station during drive time at 16. He was a spokesman for CARE International efforts in Somalia. In 2001, he caught the attention of The White House. They asked Dana to join the Administrations efforts to serve the American People. Dana describes it as a scene out of a movie: “I received a call on my cell from the White House Executive Office of the President asking me to come in for a meetingâ€?. Dana did not lobby for the position, and wondered how a person with his Hip Hop background could catch the attention of Washington’s most powerful office. Like they say, the rest was history.
Before he was down with the GOP, he toured with NWA’s ‘E-Z Does it Tour’, and RUN DMC’s ‘Raising Hell Tour’. He worked with the Liberal H.H.A.N.’s Russell Simmons as a promoter for Slick Rick and Public Enemy, and as a Howard University student he did production for his college mate and Industry Bad Boy P Diddy. Later, he joined the team of Salt N Pepa/Kid N Play where he made his musical mark of 9 million records sold Worldwide. Dana credits his music culture experiences combined with his Political Science Education at Howard University for allowing him to see Hip Hop and its larger cultural implications. “To most P Diddy is ‘bling’, to me it’s a story about economic equity. Even Salt N Pepa and Public Enemy are political expressions of Youth reckoning with Freedom, Order and Equality�. The vernacular and symbols all fit under the big tent of Hip Hop’s collective conscientiousness says Dana, and now under the big tent of the Republican Party. He also utilized his unique skill set with NYC’s Mayor Giuliani’s Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting (5 Billion year), and as a successful TV Adv Rep for BET, MTV, and Cable News. When the White House Executive Office of The President asked him to do some important work as a White House Volunteer to help the President’s Administration serve the American People-all people, including the Hip Hop generation, he did. That kind of commitment to rise above Party ideologies, the politics of Color, and division of Culture for the good of service is truly reflective of the Spirit of America. His Great Grand Father answered a call for WWII, and currently his cousins are serving in the Marines. Dana says it is also reflective of the Spirit of Hip Hop-the ability to entertain and do important work. He is the first Gold and Platinum award member of the Hip-Hop Community to be called upon by a sitting President to serve any Administration in the White House.

This is one of the strangest things I’ve ever seen. It’s pretty awesome though. It reminds me of the videos Harry Shearer for My Damn Channel. Like Turd Blossom special… which I’m pretty sure is what Brad was trying to get Bush to admit as his nickname.
