The White House herald success at the two-day summit on nuclear weapons. President Obama received a commitment from China President, Hu Janito, for help in pushing through tough sanctions against Iran. Or, at least, Obama thought he got a commitment. Within 24 hours, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jiang Yu, said, “China always believes that negotiations and dialog are the best way out of this situation, not exerting pressure.” That sure didn’t take long, did it?

The summit was also plagued by the absence of leaders from two of the United States’ closest allies, Israel and the UK. Neither Gordon Brown, nor Benjamin Netanyahu, attended, each sending subordinates instead. I guess they didn’t think it was worth the trip! Well, who can blame them? President Obama has snubbed both in the past.

So, instead, Obama has tried to make a deal with the devil, China, and once again gets stuck holding an empty bag of empty promises. Another international feather in the president’s cap. One has to wonder at this point if America has any allies left? We seem to be systematically cutting ties to everyone, either by design or by sheer stupidity. Nothing will happen in stopping Iran from developing nuclear weapons at this point. At least, not by us.
