Michael Steele, Chair of the Republican National Committee, stated during an interview on Good Morning America that, because he is an African-American, he has a ‘slimmer margin’ of error. He then said that this applies to President Obama as well. ‘That’s just the reality of it.’ He said that part of his problem as chair has been that he is trying to use a grassroots strategy, instead of employing a good ole boys strategy.

Steele also said that he had no plans to resign as Chair in light of recent stories about excessive spending, including money spent on a lesbian club. He stated that his job is to win elections; he expects retention decisions for himself to be based upon how the GOP does in the November election cycle.
