Just as news of the Chile quake centered in Concepcion Chile reached the United States, a tsunami warning was issued for the entire Pacific Ocean rim including Hawaii. In fact a tidal wave has already hit the coast of Chili that measured 8 feet high after the earthquake.
The quake resulted in massive destruction in the coastal city of Conception. Details of the earthquake damage are still coming in so we will have a video report when it is available (see below).
Equally near the epicenter are the smaller towns of Chilan and Talca, Chili. Early reports of fatalities are up to 64 people killed but the eventual toll will reach into the thousands. Rescue crews are unable to reach the local areas because bridges are down, and telephone access is unavailable to Concepcion or the other towns.
Within four hours there were already 14 aftershocks measuring 5.0 or larger including a peak of 6.5. Aftershocks in Chili are expected for weeks.
The Pacific Tsunami warning applies to all of the following countries:
Chile
Peru
Ecuador
Panama
Costa Rica
El Salvador
Guatemala
Mexico
Hawaii, USA
Japan
Indonesia
New Zealand
Australia
Antarctica
Samoa
Marshall Islands
Solomon Islands
Tonga
and all the Pacific Islands
Conception, Chile is located 200 kilometers (about 120 miles) south of Santiago, the capitol city. It is a large coastal city which has a population of 1 million people including the surrounding villages. The worst earthquake destruction will undoubtedly be in the central city, which is a historic old town of mostly brick buildings.
The Chile quake struck at 3.30am local time. It is a holiday weekend in the country so it is expected there were still party revelers outdoors and in the bars. The season is summer in the southern hemisphere.

You’ve spelled the name of the country incorrectly. It’s Chile.

I live in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Sirens are going off in my hood. I’m fairly safe inland, My sis lives on the beach facing Chile.
The whole island is already in chaos, highways, gas stations and stores jammed.
Fck !

February 27th, 2010 at 9:03 am
I’m on the ball, everyone is coming to my place.
I live only a mile from the beach as the crow flys but theres a huge crater/rim surrounding my hood, a 3 to 4 hundred wall of mountain between me and the beach with at least 100 ft. elevation at my house. Right across the highway is a Buddhist cemetary that goes up a slope thousands of feet. Thats where I’ll be at 10:30 my time as its due by 11:00 am
A tsunami has been generated. Most of my town however (kaneohe) is not that elevated.

Just please keep checking in!

Went under the bridge in our town, the homeless under there had no idea.
So far all the stores and gas stations are gettting mobbed

Stay safe, micky. I’m obviously ignorant, but are they evacuating people from hilo or other places and moving them to the mountains? It’s pretty amazing how quickly this is moving.
February 27th, 2010 at 10:33 am
Yeah, everyone in low lying areas are being warned. We have some sections that are heavely populated only a few feet above sea level facing south.
I’m luckly located fairly high
February 27th, 2010 at 11:40 am
Micky,
High ground is goo, of course. Gather close friends and relatives and what not, and you’ll see it through.
I’ll be watching from Connecticut, and praying for the best.
We’ll see you after it hits.

I must be honest homey, your site is simply amazing. I found it simply by searching around Bing and imo I am definitely thankful that I did. Keep it up. On a sidenote, http://videotrends.net/ has the first video footage I’ve seen on this event.
