It’s not ACORN. It’s New York Communities for Change. And it’s not new. It’s only a change of clothes and a dye job.
Suffering from a branding issue after James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles asked ACORN to help them set up a tax-evasion scheme for child prostitution and they responded with, “Ooohh. How exciting. How can we help?”, chapters within the corrupt national organization have decided to give themselves a new name. Or several.
That should take care of everything.
The embattled liberal group ACORN is in the process of dissolving its national structure, with state and local-chapters splitting off from the underfunded, controversial national group, an official close to the group confirmed.
They aren’t dissolving, they’re resituating. Matthew Vadum at BigGovernment.com is reporting that “the basic structure of ACORN, which is controlled from the top using interlocking directorates, remains essentially intact.”
Why does this suddenly feel like a magic trick, with the gaunt magician’s assistant in her sparkling yet nearly nonexistent outfit screaming “Look At Me!”, while the magician is busy replacing the previously impenetrable chains with paper-mache’.
“ACORN has dissolved as a national structure of state organizations,” said a senior official close to the group, who declined to be identified by name because of the fierce conservative attacks on the group that began when a conservative filmmaker caught some staffers of its tax advisory arms on tape appearing to offer advice on incorporating a prostitution business.
Oh Ben Smith of Politico. Your wording amuses me.
“Fierce conservative attacks”? Family values voters don’t like child prostitution. Or their tax dollars supporting it. How unPolanski of them.
“Caught some staffers”? By some you mean staffers in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, DC, Baltimore, San Diego and San Bernardino. Some. Yeah.
“Appearing to offer advice”? By actually offering advice, including detailing how to fill out paper work and classify prostitution as performance art.
I’ve watched those videos. After Hannah and Giles described their “business plan”, ACORN not only wanted to help, they practically squeezed the undercover reporters’ cheeks and asked to be Facebook friends.
To avoid their rather nasty reputation due to their nasty behavior, local chapters of ACORN are changing their names so that the next time they get caught promoting child sex-slavery, not everyone will have to get new business cards.
New York ACORN is now New York Communities for Change, ACORN in California is now ACCE (Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment), and Massachusetts ACORN is now New England United for Justice.
More state-level name changes are expected soon while the basic structure of ACORN, which is controlled from the top using interlocking directorates, remains essentially intact.
The ACORN network’s interlocking directorates are deliberately organized to help ACORN escape legal and public scrutiny. “ACORN hides behind a paper wall of nonprofit corporate protections to conceal a criminal conspiracy on the part of its directors, to launder federal money in order to pursue a partisan political agenda and to manipulate the American electorate,” according to a report from the Republican investigators of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
The National ACORN organization, however, denies the “dissolving” charges and insists they still exist and Bertha Lewis is still the CEO. Oh, thank goodness. We were so worried about her employment status.
So, while ACORN is denying that they’re dissolving as a national organization, it doesn’t seem entirely out of the realm of possibility, given the issues they’re facing. Even if the national staff is sticking together, it’s not clear how else to describe what happens if ultimately enough state chapters choose to break off.
The new chapters are breaking away to get new identities, new hairstyles, new shoes. In the end, however, they are still ACORN down to their nutty center.
And maybe, if they’re lucky, a real pimp will walk into their doors with a valid child-prostitution ring and the entire organization will be saved.

Hannity is covering this stroy even as I sit here and write this. Says he, “I think Obama has a credibility problem!”
Um…yeah, just a teensy bit.
With all the press this story is garnering, ow in the world can America NOT know that ACORN is simply getting facelifts on an as-needed basis?
Oh. Wait. Are the MSM outlets talking about this? No? Hmm. Only FAUX News is? Imagine that.
February 22nd, 2010 at 6:56 pm
yeah, those black and white shots of him saying how much ACORN was a part of his life really need to be spread around.
My dentist says it appears that in the last couple years I’ve been grinding my teeth alot.
Maybe Obamacare will include the caps I’m gonna need by 2012 if I have to listen to anymore of this bullsht. Oh, wait, dont I have to pay taxes on it for four years before I can use it ?
By then we’ll be taking full dentures.
February 22nd, 2010 at 8:30 pm
ACORN defines Obama, much like bleach blonde Arkansas trailer trash defined Clinton. Wait, did I say that out loud?
February 23rd, 2010 at 4:48 am
I guess this means the GOP is corrupt. The ACORN staffers only talked about engaging in corruption, but members of the GOP (Oliver North, G. Gordon Liddy, Richard Nixon et al, Larry Craig, Bob Ney, Newt Gingrich) have been actually engaging in corruption for years. Some have even been convicted and spent time in jail.
So the GOP is a corrupt organization.
February 23rd, 2010 at 7:03 pm
Hmmm, while you’ve been busy with your smear campaign, the GOP has killed any and all Health Care Reform. And they’ve been successful. As a result Insurance companies have decided to raise premiums 29%-39% across the country after realizing a staggering (and obscene) 50+% increase in profits last year. GOP wins, wage earning Americans lose.
But go ahead and keep worrying your little heads about ACORN. That’s a big, important problem.
February 23rd, 2010 at 7:16 pm
@Dan Reeder,
It is a big and important enough problem for Tara to opine about it and for you to take the time to comment.
Funny, that.
Nice to see you, Dan. Hope you swing by again!

BS. The right has mad/offerede many suggested contributios to health care reform only to be totally dicmised or ignotred by the left.
Its the ones in power on the hill who are fighting among themselves that are holding things back.

WASHINGTON – House and Senate Democrats intend to bypass traditional procedures when they negotiate a final compromise on health care legislation, officials said Monday, a move that will exclude Republican lawmakers and reduce their ability to delay or force politically troubling votes in both houses.

“Totally’ may have been a little all too encompassing a term but its no secret that the left has been about as non compliant with the left on healthcare as can be, not adopting a sngle republican proposal.
Lets knock off the BS, okay ? The reason this summit is all over the airwaves today is because the crux of the issue is that this is the first time both sides have actually sat down to debate it… RIGHT ? Which was a joke in itself as right out of the gate liberals were trying to dictate the terms of the debate and its decorum
Never mind that whole line of BS he ran off during his campaign about “transparency , C-SPAN etc…
IT NEVER HAPPENED

The House of Representatives, ever the rowdier and more populist of the two chambers of Congress, has been the scene of incessant partisan warfare in 2009, as each party appears to be in a near-constant state of outrage over the behavior of the other.
The picture got uglier this week when Democrats on a House committee changed the locks on a hearing room door in retaliation for an embarrassing video posted online by panel Republicans. ”

Please Altfreq.
Show me the options in the bill that the right has been proposing. Has a option for TORT or cross state competition have been inserted ? Are they gonna drop the idea of raping medicade for 500 billion to pay for this ? Have they launched the campaign to root out the fraud and corruption in medicade/medicare that the right suggested we start on now ?
No, they havent, and you wont find any legitimate proof that they’ve even tried.
Even today with this so called bipartisan summit its all been a fricking dog and pony show with no intent of compromise but instead just a stunt so you all can give the appearance say you tried and throw in a few more campaign plugs.
Obama practically shut McCain down because McCain held his feet to the fire over bribes, cut him off three times and clearly wanted to change subjects he was uncomfortable with it
February 26th, 2010 at 8:38 am
Mickey: Do you have any proof that the left “totally dicmised” or “ignotred” the GOP plans as you alleged? Just because they’re not in the bill doesn’t mean that they weren’t considered. Maybe the GOP’s ideas are stupid, which is probable, since they screwed up the country for the last eight years, including allowing 3,000 people to get murdered on 9-11.

Stop asking me for “proof” of whats common knowledge splattered all over the MSM for the last 6 months, alright ?
Most of my terms are just analogies for what is obvious.
Do you have a television ? Did you watch Obama tell McCain that we are no longer campaigning after McCain politely informed him of the peoples sentiments and what they do and dont want and the problems the bill presents ?
If you were the least bit informed and you actually paid attention to our government in action you wouldnt be asking me such ridiculous questions.
Next thing you know you’ll want proof of the lunar landing.
Tell me this Sherlock Holmes…
If the dems were so willing to cooperate for the last 9 months then why did boy genius finally figure out yesterday that its time to sit down with cons and finally see if a bipartisan agreement could be reached ?
yeah, because the dems are loosing seats and votes and popularity all over the place because even your own partyis getting sick of the stonewalling dems have been dishing out all this time.
You tell me…
Were the hearings displayed on CSPAN like Obama promised 8 times he would allow it ?
NO!
Did he allow for the transparency even to his own constituents as he promised ?
NO!
The people got sick of his bullsht lies which is why we saw that dog and pony show yesterday to give the appearance that hes trying to live up to his word.

“because they’re not in the bill doesn’t mean that they weren’t considered.”
They considered to be contrary to the lefts agenda of a totally fed regulated insurance industry
” Maybe the GOP’s ideas are stupid, which is probable, since they screwed up the country for the last eight years, including allowing 3,000 people to get murdered on 9-11.”
Oh, thats really rich.
After being attacked three times on Clintons watch, the Cole, our embassies, and the trade towers Clintons efforts were minimal, to say the least only allowing for more attacks and for the final 4 years of 911 to be planned after repreated warnings from Israel that such a thing would take place.
AT LEAST WHEN WE WERE ATTACKED ON BUSHS WATCH HE ACTUALLY HAD THE FCKNG BALLS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT RESULTING IN NOT ANOTHER ATTACK ON AMERICAN SOIL AT HOME AND ABROAD SINCE 911 !!!!
Now with this feckless moron in office in the last year weve seen more attacks here and abroad than ever before.
February 26th, 2010 at 9:47 am
Here buddy, a little “proof” of your messiahs arrogance.
Heres the video.
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/thegaggle/archive/2010/02/25/what-the-obama-mccain-smackdown-really-means.aspx
“Newsweek
The most exciting moment in the otherwise rather dull health-care summit today (so far!) has been a somewhat contentious exchange between President Obama and Sen. John McCain. After McCain called for reform to start again from scratch, Obama snapped back: “Let me just make this point, John, because we’re not campaigning anymore. The election’s over.” McCain, with a clipped laugh and tight smile, responded,
“I’m reminded of that every day,”
as Obama continued, “We can spend the remainder of the time with our respective talking points going back and forth. We were supposed to be talking about insurance.” (The video is here.)
So who won the exchange? Was McCain shut down? Or did Obama sound patronizing and rude? Andrew Romano weighed in with his read, and here are a few short takes from other NEWSWEEK staffers. (WARNING: May contain irony.)
Weston Kosova: Am I the only one who thinks Obama comes off looking like a jerk in that clip? He smacked McCain for sticking to prepared talking points, but it sure looked like Obama had that “campaign is over” comeback line waiting in his holster and ready to deploy.

Clinton was a screw up alright. All those attacks indicated something was up – so why did bush allow terrorists to murder 3,000 people on 9-11, and countless Iraqis?

Did mccain offer any proof for what he said? After all, mccain has been shown to be a liar:
