Ryan Sorba, from the Young Americans for Freedom organization’s California chapter, was booed off the stage tonight at CPAC, for deriding CPAC’s choice to have GOProud attend CPAC, even going so far as to say he “condemns CPAC”. Not the sort of thing one would say when invited to speak at the biggest gathering of Conservatives who look to CPAC for guidance and networking.
GOProud is, in their own words:
GOProud represents gay conservatives and their allies. GOProud is committed to a traditional conservative agenda that emphasizes limited government, individual liberty, free markets and a confident foreign policy. GOProud promotes our traditional conservative agenda by influencing politics and policy at the federal level.
Watch for yourselves.
Just like not all liberals are for abortion, not all Conservatives are against homosexuality. CPAC is a place for Conservative Thought, and is attended by folks who share the common denominator of Conservative Thought, albeit in varying shades and flavors. Mr. Sorba picked a heck of a place to grandstand, and I am most sure that his words will be used as a weapon against all Conservatives, except for the members of GOProud, of course. Freedom of Speech is still Freedom of Speech, though.
I really don’t think he’ll be asked to speak next year. Um, no.

And I don’t think CPAC is very Conservative at all (truth be told I don’t think it has been since Reagan’s days). Just take a look at in 2005, 2006, etc…they invited the ACLU to be “sponsor” along with the Log Cabin Republicans..
Really? Conservative..no.

There is no such thing as a “conservative” gay. The fact that they booed him off of the stage like liberals do whenever someone says something they disagree with proves my point. CPAC inviting a gay advocacy group proves that they are more concerned with making progressives comfortable, and alienating the pro-lifers in the party that embarrass them so much. Not to mention that gay advocacy runs counter to the party of individuality, and meritocracy.

“There is no such thing as a “conservative” gay.”
Oh bullsht.
I’ve got conservative friends who are gay and think Obama is a loser.
Were all entitled to our opinions but dont generalize as fact and expect to be taken seriously
February 19th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
There is nothing contrary to individuality, meritocracy, or pro-life (which I think most gay conservatives are) in being a gay conservative. I think those are the very things that attract gay community members to the conservative movement. What did Reagan say about being 80% my friend and not 20% my enemy?
I get being put off by GOPROUD at first glance. I can understand the fear that they are going to swoop in, demand everyone agree with everything and try to hold a pride fest at events like CPAC…..Time will prove that this is not the case.

“Just like not all liberals are for abortion, not all Conservatives are against homosexuality.”
Speaking against changing the definition of marriage as it has existed time immemorium in every society on earth does not equate to hating gays. Let us be clear on that matter.
When you adopt the language of the gay community, who has quite clearly attempted to hijack marriage, you implicitly cave into these pressures.

Sorba is a moron. That’s all I got.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
delquattro – you just don’t get it. apparently you believe all the propaganda put out by the left that attempts to define Conservatives and put people in little boxes. Unlike the left, people on the right have a broad range of ideas and individual thought is encouraged. We don’t require that everybody walk in lock-step like the left requires.
February 19th, 2010 at 9:39 pm
Since the booing started before Sorba ever spoke, I suspect there’s a whole lot more to the story than we’ll ever hear. While I agree with much of what Sorba said, he was also deliberately antagonistic, which served no real purpose at the event. I believe he would have better served by simply not going to an event that he obviously didn’t want to be a part of. Also, while it may seem as strange to some folks as a duck barking, there really ARE homosexuals who are politically conservative (except for the homosexual issue).
February 19th, 2010 at 11:06 pm
Freedom means ignoring people doing things even though you don’t like doing it yourself as long as they ain’t hurting nobody.
Going on an anti-gay tirade has little to do with promoting of Freedom. Sorba’s a moron.
February 19th, 2010 at 11:38 pm
God bless Ryan Sorba for being man enough to speak Truth. Rights are endowed by the Creator, who calls homosexuality an abomination. There is nothing conservative about sodomy.

Why can’t we have a terrorist attack when we really need one?
February 20th, 2010 at 1:29 am
you’d wish a terrorist attack on the ron paul revolutionaries who boo’d our bigoted friend? Why attack those who seek positive nonviolent change towards liberty? Especially when we are so close to achieving common goals?
February 20th, 2010 at 2:35 am
There is one thing, that it POLITICAL, that I cannot agree with the gay community about, and that is that society change to fit their lifestyle. Of course, they are free in America to do as they please in privacy, but anyone with a TV can look at what they have done to San Francisco. They insist that their lifestyle be in our face. We should be very concerned, that they want what they do to be taught to our kindergarten grand children. We have lost our rights, because of the political correctness, that keeps us from being able to just ask them to do what they do in privacy and not force us to agree that it is normal for us and our children. I have NO hatred of them. I would NEVER harm them or persecute them, but I don’t want what they do to be done in my face anymore than I want porn in my face. Can’t we just have a society where sexual activities and preferences do not have to be in our faces in every area of our lives.
We can be unified with love and respect, but to be honest, I feel like the majority of us are continually be forced to yield to the minority or be called haters, racists, and hard hearted conservatives. What about just being those who are wanting the freedom to not have other’s sexual preferences forced on us from either side of this issue. This is so frustrating to me. As an elderly widow, I am constantly having to listen to a younger more liberal generation tell me what MUST BE accepted by me, if I am to be fair and politically correct. I would rather be morally correct and constitutionally correct, than be popular with every sector of our society. I want the blessing to not only have life, but the liberty to pursue happiness, which I can’t do, when I am forced to agree with those with whom I disagree. I won’t force my values on them, and I wish they would not force their lifestyle on me. Can’t we agree to disagree, give each other the freedom to do that, and still want to live under the constitution of the UNITED States of America.
February 20th, 2010 at 2:42 am
First let my say I’m not gay and that I don’t approve of the lifestyle. But to all you “Can’t be gay AND conservative” folks out there, perhaps you’ve forgotten how many Log Cabin Republicans voted for Ronald Reagan. Or do you think it was such a landslide because it was only heterosexuals voted for him.
Ryan Sorba is a Moron and history will bare that out. YAF should demote him to janitor so at least he could clean up after himself when he speaks. His foot’s so far in his mouth he’s gnawing on his hip bone.
We are in a war for the heart & soul of our country. And in war you take your allies where you can get them. And if they are willing to help spread our common message, let’s let them. It’s time for us to get out of our own way.

AMEN, Anita!

RightPundit,
It’s not that they are gay.
It’s that they oppose conservative policies on:
Gay Marriage
Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
etc.
February 20th, 2010 at 4:34 am
“apparently you believe all the propaganda put out by the left that attempts to define Conservatives and put people in little boxes.”
That’s rich. Because you would never do that, right, Beth Shaw? If you resent being characterized generally…then maybe you should try not doing it either.

LOL – Moron… how do lesbians commit sodomy… need to get over the hot gay man sex you describe. lol Loser
February 20th, 2010 at 9:35 am
I believe in low taxes, small government, and I love big business, I’m anti-abortion and I am southern Baptist.
I’m also gay.
I guess since I’m gay though – according to some of ya’ll – I should vote democrat for the little fact that I’m gay and I believe in gay marriage.
Yeah. I’ll vote Democrat for as long as nut jobs homophobic jerks keep making comments like that. I hope all minorities continue voting opposition to the GOP until the GOP decides to be tolerant towards Gays, Blacks, etc. etc.
And I yeah. The GOP always wonders why Gay’s and Blacks generally vote Democrat (No matter how Republican they may be) – It’s because my gay vote doens’t matter to the GOP and they find it disgusting that I’d vote for them despite everything I agree with them on.
I would vote Sara Palin or Mitt in 2010, but I don’t feel like it if this crap keeps up. I hate Obama, but I’d vote for him just for a little trivial fact that he at least appreciates my vote…

Hmm. To me that sounds like blackmail. I’m gay, or I’m black, so cater to my gayness or blackness or I’ll vote against you, even though the GOP tries to not marginalize my gayness by giving me “rights” like the Dems do under the guise of sexual segregation.
It’s how the Dems have monopolized upon the victim mentality so prevalent in America. I like to call it Political Slavery.
If your gayness, or blackness, or any kind of -ness is what makes you who you are and nothing else matters, then how is it that your vote reflects that which is best for America as a whole?
February 20th, 2010 at 9:45 am
i think there’s one thing here that’s crystal clear: this guy has had more penis in him than a urinal at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
February 20th, 2010 at 9:56 am
No. I’m not voting for someone that completely disdains gay people. Irregardless of the fact that I’m very republican/conservative on every issue excluding homosexuality.
I’ll vote for democrats despite believing in small government, low taxes, anti-abortion, etc. etc.
Yes, I realize democrats are playing off my gayness. And I also realize that only they would stan up for my basic freedoms regarding homosexuality. If I can’t have my basic freedom of marriage and such – then I say watch this country go into massive debt when I cast my vote for Obama in ‘10.
However, I hold hope that Mitt or a more socially moderate and fiscally conservative GOP candidate will run.
Of course I’m not going to vote GOP if they don’t acknowledge what I want. What if the GOP were atheist and you were Christian and they wanted to ban practice of Christianity except for in the bedroom. Would you vote GOP then?
February 20th, 2010 at 9:57 am
I meant when I cast my vote for Obama in 2012. Pardon me.
February 20th, 2010 at 10:11 am
@Erik,
Why can’t we vote for the person who will leave morality/social issues out of Federal government’s interference when it comes to the Presidency?
I hardly look to any President to be my role model or morality compass. I need them to adhere to principles of proper governance. Issues like homosexuality and such should be handled by the American people at the State or even county level.
If this were to ever happen, it would make America stronger by removing the stranglehold that socially-motivated special interest groups have on the Federal government.
Just an observation.
I could care less if you want to kiss other boys. I would be bothered if that was the only issue that you used as a litmus test on any prospective Presidential candidate, or if that issue would turn out to be a “deal breaker” for casting a proper vote.
Thanks for reading, Erik.
