Bill Maher should be in a world of hurt over comments uttered about Dick Cheney on his Real Time HBO show. Video below. This is the show that Maher fled to after ABC fired him five years ago for sympathizing with the 911 terrorists, capping a long career of anti-American hate speech.
This time Bill Maher says that Dick Cheney should have been assassinated in the failed bombing attempt last week in Afghanistan. Maher repeated his obscene rhetoric a few times, including this zinger:
Maher: I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact.

Maher never said he was sorry the assasination attempt failed or anything close to it. He was talking about censorship on the Huffington Post. Anyone that can take that video out of context is either a fool or brainwashed.

I just watched this video and I don’t understand what the big deal is? Mr Maher never said he wished Cheney was dead. He simply pointed out a fact, which is if Cheney and Bush were not in power 3500 of our soldiers might not be dead. Thousands more may not be permanantly damaged both mentally and physically. Not to mention the many thousands of Iraqis that are dead or displaced. Is this the best that the right can do? Attack a talk show host for pointing out a simple truth. Maybe they need to watch this clip again without hatred and bias in their hearts and see the truth. Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush are responsible for these deaths and pointing that out is simply an exercise in free speech and patriotism.

Regardless, Maher was clear. The context was about the benefits of death, not about the election.

Why can’t you people even watch a short clip and determine accurately what is being said? Maher was simply defending the right of posters on a web site to state their (admittedly quite hostile) opinions and bemoaning the censorship of them. Thats a far cry from saying he wished Dick Cheney was killed. Every time Ann Coulter (etc.) makes the news with one of her noxious emissions, numerous right-wingers stand up and cry ‘free speech!’ But if the shoe’s on the other foot, with much more moderate and accurate speech by Maher…But yes, its true: if that liar Cheney had been killed years ago, many American soldiers and Iraqi civilians would be alive today.

Clairvoyant Joe must know how many other Iraqi civilians would be dead without the invasion. His lovable dictator Sadam is responsible for 2 million dead humans, after all.
Why the need to defend Bill Mayer of all people. He doesn’t really matter to anyone except perhaps his mother and partner. I suggest that Joe pick a more grand issue to obsess about.
