A new book is making a rather unremarkable claim that Osama bin Laden plotted to kill Bill Clinton while he was still president and before the Twin Towers collapse. Read the story here but this news should hardly be surprising. That is what terrorists do in a dangerous world and almost every president understands it.

The book is by Ken Gormley titled The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs. Starr, which is mainly a narrative of the Monica Lewinsky affair and the impeachment proceedings in the Senate which followed it. Remember Monica Lewinsky?
One portion of Gormley’s book recalls an APEC conference in Manila, Philippines in 1996 which Bill Clinton attended. Just minutes before the presidential motorcade was about to cross a bridge in the capitol city, the Secret Service was tipped off that Al Qaeda terrorists were planning to blow up the bridge.
The motorcade was diverted and all is well that ends well. A bomb was actually discovered according to the author who connects Osama bin Laden as the mastermind behind the bomb plot and Bill Clinton’s assassination attempt.
This is certainly an interesting bit of news slipped out to sell a book. The Death of American Virtue: Clinton vs. Starr is scheduled for release the coming February, and publishers like to send teasers out to generate interest.
In reality intelligence is received constantly during overseas trips, motorcades are diverted and the president returns safely. When traveling in foreign lands the president of the United States has a big bulls-eye on his back which every terrorist under every rock would target.
How Ken Gormley links Osama bin Laden to the assassination plot is unclear other than a vague reference to a subsequent intelligence investigation. Clearly Islamic terrorists have been undermining the democratic government in the Philippines for two decades, however they are thought to be only loosely associated with Al Qaeda. It’s not clear that Osama bin Laden would be calling the shots there.

Sending a half nude woman out to assasinate any devout radical Islamist is enough to have him go on the offense… for any number of reasons.
They may just bait her in order for one of the most sexually frustrated man on the planet to finally get some.
Or the whole humiliating idea of recruiting a woman to do any such thing could of really pi$$ed him off. But, all that is probably as credible as Ken Gormleys claim to inside knowledge of the alleged attempt on Clinton.
In all fairness to Ken what he claims is not all too surprising since the main intent behind Al Queda is to instil fear to the point where our society becomes dysfuctional to produce anarchy and collapse. And what better way to do than to knock of a sitting president ?
As much as its known that our promiscuity is just one of many reasons radicals hate us I can only assume that any radical hearing about our leader having sex with women and cigars in the Oval office didnt drive him to love us any more than he already did.
911 was concieved in 96 and planned all thru the remainder of Clintons term. Til today I still maintain the opinion that Clinton was in large part responsible for 911 and that had there not been so much distraction going on everywhere there would of been better focus on what the camel jockeys were up to. You’d think after all the attacks on and off our soil that any president would of done more than Clinton did to deal with these schmucks.
And for those of you who are going to come after me and say that what really matters is that it happened on Bushs watch I say fair enough. But only if you take into consideration that during Bushs term it only took one time for these morons to get out of line and and he issued them an a$$ whoping like they’ve never seen before. After any one of the many attacks we suffered had Clinton established defenses such as the Dept. of Homeland security, the Patriot act and reacted with the same level of force Bush used I can almost guarantee that 911 would of never happened.

Actually if you took things in an honest context you could of said it better.
Clinton let us be attacked time after time and didnt do sht only allowing more attacks to be carried out.
Bush only allowed this once and after that we were never attacked whithin our borders or at any of our facilities abroad again.

If you want to investigate further you would know that in the 1980s, the CIA provided some $5 billion in military aid for Islamic fundamentalist rebels fighting the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan, inventing the “Taliban” group that you speak of. With advancing technology we kill more civilians. In WW1 10% of casualties were innocent people. In WW2 it was 50%, In Vietnam it was up to 70%, and in Iraq war we are over 90%

But much like the Taliban we are not able to stop these guys from changing their MOs. Having the Soviets takeover Afghanistan in the 80s was a far larger threat than anything the Taliban provided at the time.

And does it really matter who caused the deaths? Fact is, insurgents were there because US was there. And US invasion of Iraq was wrong. Especially since, as you point out, US armed Iraq in the first place.
Warmongering is never okay. Saddam may have been a terrible person, but anyone who can launch an attack over lies, and end up killing many – directly or indirectly – is just as bad.
And besides – I am willing to bet the Iraqi war of 2003+ has caused far more deaths and will continue to cause more deaths still, than Saddam ever would have caused …
And how anyone could see Saddam as a threat to the US is beyond me – if he was such a threat, why is it he was actually hiding in fear, rather than assaulting or defending his country ?

You can call Obama an idiot, a softy, a coward, etc. It is undeniable that Bush was President during 9-11 and had a responsibility to get the man responsible for it and to obliterate the organization behind it. He said as much himself. He did not do that, though he had 7 years. The destruction of the World Trade center, the havoc caused to our financial system, not even to mention the innocent people killed.
