When Liz Cheney said “Think Cheney 2012″ on the last FOX News Sunday with Chris Wallace – the panel in the studio and lame stream media later assumed she was talking about her father – former VP Dick Cheney. Everybody took the bait – and got caught in… sexism. She did not say “Think Dick Cheney 2012”. It never occurred to the Good Ol’ Boys in the media that Liz Cheney was hinting about a possible run of a Cheney in 2012… like in “Liz Cheney 2012″. Why not? The lady is extremely smart and has a whooping resume that tops Hillary and Sarah if you put them together.
Let’s take a look at who Liz Cheney really is , besides the fact that she is a daughter of her father. Can Liz become the American Angela Merkel?
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from Colorado College. Senior thesis: “The Evolution of Presidential War Powers,” in 1988.
J.D. degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1996, having also taken courses in Middle Eastern history at the Oriental Institute.
Seems to me she was looking into the Presidency ever since college. More from Wikipedia:
Early Career:
Before attending law school, Cheney worked for the State Department for five years and the U.S. Agency for International Development between 1989 and 1993. After 1993, she took a job at Armitage Associates LLP, the consulting firm founded by Richard Armitage, then a former Defense Department official and Iran-Contra operative who later served as Deputy Secretary of State.
After graduating from law school, Cheney practiced law in the private sector (at the law firm of White & Case) and as an international law attorney and consultant at the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group. She has also served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Secretary of State for Assistance to the former Soviet Union, and as a USAID officer in U.S. embassies in Budapest and Warsaw.
Seems to me she was better prepared to be President at the time then Barack Obama was in January this year.
Middle East :
In 2002, Cheney was appointed to the position of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, a pre-existing vacant post with an “economic portfolio,” which is a mandate to promote investment in the region. Amid reports, including a New York Times editorial by Paul Krugman, saying that the job was created especially for her, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said that she had come recommended by then-Secretary of State Colin Powell. The Times (London) reported that Cheney’s appointment was “the most intriguing sign that America is getting serious about Middle East reform” and that the appointment was “a measure of the seriousness with which the administration was taking Middle East programmers for literacy, education, and reform.” The appointment followed publicized policy divisions between the Vice President’s office and the State Department on Middle East policy. In that position, she was given control of the Middle East Partnership Initiative, designed to “foster increased democracy and economic progress in a troubled region.”
In February 2005, she returned to the US State Department and was appointed the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State For Near Eastern Affairs and Coordinator for Broader Middle East and North Africa Initiatives. In this position, Cheney supported the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, C. David Welch, and coordinated U.S. multilateral efforts to promote and support democracy, expanded education and economic opportunities in the Middle East and Northern Africa. Her position made her the second-ranking U.S. diplomat for the Middle East.
Seems to me as a solid foreign experience in the hardest diplomatic region.
So what is Liz Cheney doing now, you sexists?
Is she baking cookies? May be, but she also is running a non-profit 501(c)4 organization, Keep America Safe. The purpose of the group is to support and defend policies of the Bush/Cheney administration which they believe will keep America safe.
Hello! Liz Cheney threw a major trial balloon on a major political show on a major network and nobody noticed? Take the challenge you guys! “Think Cheney 2012 – Think Liz!”

Now this is a candidate that I could cheerfully support.

Liz has an impressive resume.

I think Liz has an impressive resume, but her father has doomed her I’m afraid. The Cheney name just has too many negatives.
November 21st, 2009 at 8:31 am
In my chart Cheney name brings only positives
I want to see this campaign. Obama really wanted to run against Bush/Cheney
How about
Bush/Cheney 2012 as in Jeb Bush/Liz Cheney 2012

She doesn’t have the wow factor or the warm factor, screens that Americans will use in picking a female president. And She also has a peculiar take on her father’s doings, not in simply defending him, but in her political spin on dealing with reality and her views on how things were handeled. I don’t trust her to be an honest broker of ideas. She is one of them I am afraid and not likely to get past that tarnish.

But how does she look in jogging shorts?
November 21st, 2009 at 8:59 am
Yes, Brian, I know you will be happy to push us into some “charismatic empty suit or skirt” candidate. I think by 2012 - people will be sick of the Undecider’s policies - especially on national security. Liz is good looking - mother of five!!!!!!!!! - Cheney is married to Philip Perry, the former General Counsel of the United States Department of Homeland Security - and Hello - she was preparing whole her life to be our President. Liz Cheney is killer candidate for President or VP.

Fly, we saw Obama in shorts - did not help our economy

“I think Liz has an impressive resume, but her father has doomed her I’m afraid. The Cheney name just has too many negatives.”
But Bryan, wasn’t Princess Leah’s father Darth Vader? Look how well things turned out for her.
November 21st, 2009 at 9:03 am
Brian, how do you know what is her wow-factor - I haven’t seen her name included in any poll.
November 21st, 2009 at 9:05 am
Cheney was on a Stephanopoulis show and she was quite a good arguer and spinstress, but frankly I didn’t see any honest idea brokering there and that is a no go in my book. If she had some passion for some positive projects for us as a nation to do, I was all ears, but I heard nothing like that. I caught no glimpse of a Liz vision for America that would resonate with many people. I think presidential candidates need to run on building something, not just maintaining the tired status quo. Especially with our changing demographics where you have whole generations of ambitious people looking for new opportunities to build their lives. A just say no obstructionist party won’t feel good, right, or fair to them.

Brian - here is her positive ideas at work - check her site

Heh, true, but Darth Cheney is worse then Darth Vader.
November 21st, 2009 at 9:48 am
Bryan - I’m a fan of Darth Vader - what is wrong with him?
November 21st, 2009 at 2:46 pm
Liz Cheney - she is great, but is going to endorse Hutchinson over Perry like her father did? A Liz/Sarah catfight in the GOP primary would be good for the party. Winner takes Rudy as VP!

your always looking for genetic continuity, whether it be the reagun, bush, or cheney gene to be your leader.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Gee, I was wondering if anyone picked up on the Fox News Sunday remark by Liz. She had that cute little smile on her face and no one, NO ONE picked up on it!!!!!! Hell, and I’m a guy! I’ve bee watching and listening to her. I think she is the on eto watch to be very honest.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:33 pm
Brian, get behind the lead dog and stay there! Remember when you are always behind the lead dog, the scene never changes. I’m going with the Conservative change that is coming to defeat the socialist turn in this country and Liz is one of the leaders. Everyone, have you noticed that the only people who have BALLS in the movement are women?????????

ellie even the title keepamericasafe is part and parcel of the bush cheney reputation rehabilitaion project others have written extensively about. In the last year of the bush presidency a strong effort was made by staff to rehab his rep for the history writers. Its a public relations push. There is much more going on in America than just progamming everyone to be constantly afraid and vigilante and to basically shut up and sit down. We are capable of so much more than being managed by fear by these dreadful people. bush ran his whole second campaign on the fear thing and what he ended up doing is wreaking the economy so the most aggressive among us could get ever richer. I am sure he didn’t sit and choreograph it, but his administrative agencies took a totally hands off regulatory approach till things were crashing so badly his treasury secratary told him we had 24 hours of economy left before the end. Now you have to admit, with all the experts in washington, all his staff and agency people, somone must have seen this train wreak coming along well before the day it hit, and he did nothing.

medic, why do you think these woman are leaders? they are personalities, pretty, good media buzz, but leaders? I just dont see it. They seem oblivious to our needs as a nation frankly. really oblivious. if all you want is a winner, thats irresponsible. we need leaders with plans, processes, contacts, expert teams, true on your feet problem solving, palin solved her problem quitting a governorship post? cheney is on a talking points spin meister tour without brining anything truely liz or new. at least pick a leader who has a plan and skills and dedication to do probably the toughest white collar job on earth. I would add a lot of horse sense to that and a true desire to help people and help the earth.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:47 pm
I just looked at fox news and all they had were a bunch of negatives on health reform in their headliners and todays vote, compared to say cnn and abc and reuters that truely had a more balanced and factual approach. what is wrong with fox? its so obviously biased. plus they keep hitting the same talking points, so I know their news is a plant.
November 21st, 2009 at 4:55 pm
Brian, I would take “keep America safe” over “ignore America’s enemies and they will ignore America” any time. As I explained before, as naturalized American born in Eastern Europe I have great respect for Bush’s deeds overseas. We don’t want to scare people. We just want people to say something if they see something. It is fair to ask that. It can save lives. Be aware of the enemy, do not ignore or underestimate it.
And Brian, we are in economic crisis because the banks stopped landing. Why land to small business when you can land risk free to Obama’s trillion dollar government pet projects.

Hey, if anyone is interested we have a live blog going on for the senate debate here, http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=5029

Brian, after electing Obama the standard for the job is so low - anybody who can read teleprompter would do.
