Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush quietly visited the wounded from the Ft. Hood massacre on Friday. Barack Obama mentioned the attack at the end of some comments he made at a conference and on Saturday, Obama headed out to Camp David for a little R&R. Bush visits Ft. Hood, Obama goes to Camp David. What is wrong with this picture? Even more troubling, is there an Obama, Hassan connection?
It has been a bit disconcerting that the President of the United States has seemed so terribly disengaged from a terrorist attack on a military base in the heartland of the United States. On American soil. He gave some lip service to the ‘horrific outburst of violence’ at the end of some comments he made at the end of the Tribal Nation Conference on the day of the attack. He warned people to not ‘jump to conclusions’ - you know, like he did when a white police officer was doing his job and got cussed out by one of Obama’s friends and they all ended up having to have a ‘beer summit’ with the President to improve race relations. Yeah, don’t jump to conclusions like he does.
Of course, the reason he warned about jumping to conclusions is that it turns out that the Army Major is a muslim with a muslim name. Major Nidal Malik Hasan. He’s the alleged perpetrator, traitor and enemy combatant who cornered a large crowd of unarmed Soldiers in the Soldier Readiness Center at Ft. Hood in Killeen, Texas.
Okay, so we won’t jump to conclusions, Mr. President. But the question remains, why has the president shown so little interest in an attack being perpetrated by an enemy combatant on a military base on American soil? Why the downplaying? Rationalizing it away? Giving his family in Palestine a voice via American media outlets to decry the Global War on Terrorism? The spin seems to be that he’s disgruntled, mistreated by his peers for being muslim, scared of being deployed. Yada-yada.
The other side to that story comes from virtually everyone else who tells us that he initiated arguments with peers at work, couldn’t relate to the Soldiers he was ‘treating’ at Walter Reed Hospital and apparently told everyone within listening distance that he was ‘muslim first, American second.’ He also made statements to many people that he viewed an attack on an Army recruitment center as justified and that muslims should take up arms against American troops.
This is NOT a disgruntled, mistreated guy who was picked on because he’s muslim. This is an enemy combatant and a traitor to the United States.
Meanwhile, former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush quietly visited the wounded from the Ft. Hood massacre on Friday. They didn’t allow photo opts, rather quietly visited the wounded. They are said to have spent hours there and were very concerned and comforting to the wounded and grieving.
Obama, on the other hand, the President of the United States, hasn’t gotten around to getting down to Texas yet. He’s just been so busy, don’t cha know. Here is Obama’s schedule for Saturday.
11:25AM THE PRESIDENT addresses the House Democratic Caucus - Cannon House Office Building
2:30PM THE PRESIDENT makes a statement to the press on Health Care - Rose Garden
2:45PM THE PRESIDENT and THE FIRST LADY depart The White House en route Camp David - South Lawn
Perhaps he simply doesn’t care. Or perhaps, he’s having to try to figure out how to keep people from finding out that the terrorist who attacked our Soldiers at Ft. Hood was a member of Obama’s transition team. He was a member of the Homeland Security Policy Institute. It’s on page 32 of the Obama Transition Team documents.
Is that Obama, Hasan connection the reason that Hasan has been under investigation for six months and yet was free to go about a military base undeterred? Obama IS the commander-in-chief after all. Food for thought and something that makes you more than a little sick to your stomach.
One has to wonder how deep this rabbit hole goes. Barack Hussein Obama, hmmm, hmmm, hmmm.
You can see the odd comments Obama made, seemingly as an afterthought, about the Ft. Hood Army base massacre at the end of his comments at the Tribal Nation Conference on November 5, 2009. That conference is a whole other story.

Neither the media nor the liberal left are saying, “See, Napolitano was right.” Hmmm.
My guess is that if the soldier were a white Christian, Homeland Security would consider itself vindicated.
I’ll bet Tim is going to have a lot to say about this!

The war(s) are bush’s inventions and lasting legacy, as we can’t just walk away, to obama in addition to the financial meltdown and even things like the Italian rendition case settled today with abstenstee sentences handed out to some cia operatives. No its not being covered much in our press either but ABC has a piece on it today. You can imagine the horror faced by the returning and departing service people and their families, who were sent over on that mission originally by bush and I would like to think he had enough of an empathic response to respond in some way. I think your point is an interesting one as to whether obama feels a natural empathy bond towards “us” and “our kind” and I really don’t know. Obviously his finishing his conference remarks rather than going right to the fr. hood disaster was terrible. But clearly we live in an empire and our enemies have struck. In the Guardian there is quite a bitter article on afghanistan and its government today as the Brits lost 7 service people and there has been a whole host of costly mistakes lately that have little to do with direct confrontation with the enemy. And how we got into a 12-30 year war with the taliban seems quite a deviation from orignally going after al queda. Wars have unintended consquences.

the contrast between how Bush treats the military and how Obama does is breathtaking.
Obama is all about Obama.

What an irresponsible piece of journalism. Bring us some investigative integrity instead of innuendo. This is the embarrassing work of a hack journalist who must have received an education from the back of a cereal box.

Bush visits Ft. Hood, Obama goes to Camp David. What is wrong with this picture?
What is wrong with this picture is that Obama deep in his gut despises the military and has no business being Commander in Chief.
He does NOT care about the troops. He cares about Obama.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:24 pm
Jill - I obviously struck a nerve with you.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
Obama doesn’t even know the difference between the Medal of Freedom and the Medal of Honor. He is so out of touch with the military that he has absolutely NO business being CIC.

Tim I have been in the world trade towers. What I am saying, is early mishandling of the wars and the intelligence was just inexcusable. Sure Clinton could have gotten bin laden for free and rejected the opportunity. All I can say is we should have put our military behind tora bora rather than farm it out to a warlord. Why didn’t we trust Hans Blix? there were others saying the same thing. I am not sure how the lost trade towers translates into a 12-30 year war with the taliban when the afghanistan government itself has such major problems. I saw an interview by a mr. Hoh, I believe the senior political officer of was it Helmand region? and he is a smart guy and he says we are going about it all wrong at this point, and so does the head of the Harvard afghanistan/Pakistan institute which advocates a smaller, not bigger footprint, and more state dept and nation building. but obviously security is an issue. On the plus side Pakistan is cleaning out wazhiriztan right now. I hope our intelligence and state dept. and obama gets it right. meanwhile Iran is apparently jumping ahead to working on 4th-5th generation small nuclear warhead design simply skipping steps. Where are they getting all this expertise? You have to actually read the british press to get more information than our press is giving.

Four comments - five including this one. Wow. You really know how to appeal to the masses.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Beth seriously, we need to stop making our troops drive all around an ied infested landscape. There has got to be a smarter way of doing this than simply thinking physically dominating the terrain we are on top. we are fighting a shadow enemy who sneaks traps under our feet.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
…. wow.
Only on the internet can you manage to get something like this published.

And when Obama visits Dover Air Force Base, Rush Limbaugh calls it just a phot op. He can’t win with you guys. I’m glad ‘W’ visited Fort Hood without cameras. Good for him. He has plenty of leisure time.
November 7th, 2009 at 6:45 pm
Wow - Obama can do NO wrong in you guy’s eyes. Hope that kool-aide is tasty.

rachel maddow’s last night news cast said that hasan attended a one day conference with a lot of other people somewhere that had some White House sponsorship by proxy basically involvement and thats the extent of it. The footage showed him sitting in a big lecture amphitheater with more than 200 people and he was in the fourth or so row. he had no personal audience with Obama or staff apparently. and that was it.

Thanks to the internet, crackpots like you have free license to draw false connections, smear and insinuate to your heart’s content while driving all integrity out of the field of journalism. People like you are what give rational, thoughtful conservatives like me a bad name. Let’s not lose our focus…this was not a terrorist attack. This was a disgruntled American born soldier that did a horrible act.
November 7th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Lies, lies, lies. Just what I would expect from you, Beth.
Maybe it will turn out that Hasan is your brother. Yeah, that’s it! Beth’s brother just shot up Fort Hood!
How can you sleep at night, Beth? You are not stupid, so you know you are a liar. Not only that, you stoop to using this horrific tragedy as a vehicle for your lies. You would use anything, wouldn’t you. Anything.
Oh, and Glenn Beck has always been sick. Sick in the head, just like you.
But no, you are not sick. I truly believe that you know what you are about. Evil. Pure evil. You take evil, and you use it. You compound on it.
You and this Hasan dude are one in the same. Brothers. One in the spirit. Just like I said.
