With over 1,000 deaths, Barack Obama has declared that the H1N1 virus or Swine Flu is a national emergency. Is this necessary? If so, why have the Obama daughters not be vaccinated? Read more below.
The Centers for Disease Control has recommended that children ages 6 months through 18 years of age receive a vaccination against the H1N1 flu virus also called the Swine Flu. However, because of the flu shot shortage, only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain. This means that Barack Obama’s young daughters have not been vaccinated for H1N1. This, after their dad declared that the country is now under an H1N1 national emergency.
Surely if there is a national emergency and if the President and First Lady of the United States wanted flu shots for their daughters, they could get them. It is certainly connected to our national security right? I mean the president needs to have his wits about him 24/7 not worrying over sick children. Could this instead be yet another case of “do as I say, not as I do” from the Obama administration?
Some of you cynics out there feel Barack Obama’s “national emergency” over the H1N1 is politically manufactured, taking heat off of healthcare reform, and giving BO and his feckless HHS Secretary, Kathleen Sebelious, even more power. I’m inclined to agree.
But for you Obama purists, could Barack and Michelle have missed a national teachable moment? With so many parents across the country afraid of giving their kids the H1N1 vacine, you’d think The One would want to show leadership and confidence in his decisions, while providing comfort to a lot of worried parents by giving his own daughters the injection. Alas no - yet another disappointment from this administration. Obama’s daughters are not vaccinated for H1N1. You can watch an interesting video below with Don Imus’ Wife Deirdre saying Obama’s Daughters should be H1N1 vaccinated on TV. Holy cow.

The reason for the national emergency is to lift restrictions of Medicare, Medicaid and other insurance that bars people from getting treatment outside of a hospital. If they have to open schools and community centers because hospitals do not have the room, or they need to separate those who are ill with flu from the other hospital patients - they can now do so.
Obama would certainly be criticized for getting his kids special treatment when they don’t qualify for the shot, unless they have underlying health concerns. In which case the Obama’s would get their children vaccinated. Mismanagement of the vaccines at a time of national shortage is a disgrace, and robs those who really need the vaccine.
There will undoubtedly be an increase of flu cases since so many people were congregated at various flu clinics for shots. There are stories of thousands who lined up. It would have been better if people were allowed to drive through for shots. Now people will blame the vaccine for giving them the flu. It takes two to three weeks for immunity to kick in after a vaccination. In that time frame it is possible to get the flu, crowded public events increase the likelihood of getting it.

“However, because of the flu shot shortage, only children with chronic medical conditions are receiving the vaccination because their immune system is not strong enough to fight off the strain.”
Maybe they don’t HAVE chronic medical conditions. It would look bad to put his daughters ahead of those more needy than they, no?

Jesus, the right will literally pick apart every tiny aspect of his life and spin it ‘appropriately’. This is so petty it shouldn’t even be covered.

They don’t need the vaccine. Their dad is the chosen one, so he’d never let them get sick. Germs are beneath them.

Hey…in the photo of The One with his two kids, why is he wearing that thing on his head that looks like either a peacock fan or something like the pharoahs used to wear…Oh, nevermind it is just the funny shaped window in the door in the background…

I agree with denverdan. Journalism should be better than this, it appears that logical, rational reasoning was missed when the facts are glossed over - or not checked. If insurance companies did not have rules that they do regarding where people can get care, maybe a national emergency declaration would not be necessary. Aside from that it takes an official state or federal declaration for hospitals to switch to their disaster plans. Also I believe that during times of national crisis, public buildings must be opened if needed for shelter to the public, like the superdome was in H. Katrina. Legally they can’t do that unless there is some declaration, and so it frees funding and restrictions that are normally in place. Every state now has H1N1 infection rates in extraordinary numbers. Hospitals are not capable of handling vast numbers of sick patients, and those needing ventilators will be put on priority etc. Over the last several years many hospitals have laid off workers and have even closed entire wings. Most public health agencies are down to a shoestring staff. There’s a nursing shortage, but many have been laid off. The entire medical infrastructure is not prepared for vast numbers of sick people. It is worse for rural counties.

Had Obama’s daughters BEEN vaccinated, you’d be saying just the opposite. You’d be saying that they are getting some sort of unfair privilege that other kids aren’t getting.
No matter what Obama does, one way or the other, you are going to damn him for it.

“Remember George Bush, Jackass?”
Please show some respect!! The title should be written, “George W. Bush, Jackass & 43rd President of the United States of America.”
Geez….
You do make a point, however - mainstream journalism (esp. TV) often seems overly concerned with the minutia of celebrity life, including political celebrities, than it does with real news. The “Balloon Boy” imbroglio and Jon & Kate +8-Jon poop clogs the airwaves while important stories get only lip service or swept under the rug completely..

Geez….
“You do make a point, however…”
Really?? I just reread my post and don’t see where I made that point.
If anything, I was trying to point out that George Bush was under a microscope throughout his presidency and the left wing media and bloggers were unmerciful while disecting his every move, even going so far as stretching the truth and outright lying to make him look bad.
Now the left thinks we’re treating the floppy-eared, do-nothing, TOTUS unfairly. Too f’n bad!!!

Hmm … last week my daughter brought information home from school on the H1N1 “national emergency” with a permission form that will allow the district to administer a free vaccination. The school district wants to vaccinate several thousand school children against H1N1 for free. How does a small “red state” school district get sufficient vaccine to immunize several thousand students but there isn’t enough for the President of the United States to have his daughters immunized? I’m calling BS on that argument.
As for the “national emergency”, how else is he going to get health care “reform” passed but by creating an emergency? Isn’t that the modus operandi of this administration? “Never let a good crisis go to waste.”

@flyingMonkey -
Unfortunately I do. But I also remember that most people criticized him for good reason - lying to the country about the reason we went to war, not heeding warnings about 9/11 - etc. I didn’t see too much about crap like his kids not getting a flu shot. We reserve such petty blows for the right side.

More historical revisionism. How about how the media absolutely brutalized Sarah Palin’s family to advance their left wing political agenda? I don’t recall the Bush daughters being trotted out for every photo op and policy marketing campaign. It is President Obama that has put his own children in the spotlight. I think it is appropriate to critically examine his actions as a parent when he is so eager to tell us all what we should and even makes an end run around family authority to speak directly to our children.

Hondo,
You’re right, it’s a clear victory for the left. I can’t think of any lie Obama has come up with that has killed thousands of people.
October 27th, 2009 at 10:18 am
Jim,
That’s because Palin IS a joke… even a lot of people on the right will admit to that.
