Soldiers Angels has launched its annual fundraiser called “Project Valour-IT” to provide specially-fitted laptops for wounded veterans. This year, Right Pundits is joining the Marine Team in helping raise money for this great cause. Read more below on how you can get involved!

Have you heard of Project Valour IT? It’s a program that provides laptops with voice activated software to our wounded soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen recovering at military medical centers all across America. The annual fundraiser to support the program is from October 26 to November 11. This year RP is a member of the Marine Team and though the Marines are the smallest service, we’re planning to blow through our competition bigtime with your help!

We’ve all heard the amazing stories of young men and women who, after a catastrophic war injury, often take up bungee jumping or skiing or some other extreme sport. Some even want to go back to the war zone. Typically these wounded warriors have spent up to two years recovering and undergoing serious physical therapy. Their courage and determination is more then inspiring. But it’s during the physical healing period – the time they are confined to a bed – that can be the most difficult for them.

Project Valour IT provides them with a way – through IT – to escape the confines of their rooms and keep in touch with buddies, friends and family members. For many wounded vets, it becomes that tangible reminder that they’re still part of the world outside Bethesda or Walter Reed hospitals. It also helps to remind them that there is life waiting for them even after being so seriously wounded.

The Project Valour IT fundraising competition was developed by Soldiers Angels as a fun way to raise money for this important project. There are four teams, purely for the sake of friendly competition of course, called Air Force, Navy, Army, and Marines. The team of bloggers that collects the most donations at the end of the 2-week period, get ‘bragging rights’ which is pretty sweet, but the real winners in all of this are our wounded warriors. And here is some good news: all funds raised go into the same Valour IT account and are used to assist any wounded service member in need of Valour IT’s support, regardless of his or her service branch.

Right Pundits is proud to be on the Marine Team this year. Our team leader is amazing blogger Cassandra, whose own husband is a Marine officer currently serving in Afghanistan. If you look at our blogs’ left sidebar, you will see the other awesome Marine Team blogger members along with a Valour It Donation widget. You’ll be able to see how Marine Team is doing toward our goal of $35,000 this year by regularly monitoring that meter!

We know these are economically difficult times. But if you are able, please go here to donate any amount to Project Valour IT Fundraiser’s Marine Corps Team. You can have the confidence knowing that every dollar raised goes directly to wounded vets at military medical and VA treatment centers nationwide.

We’ll be sharing with you throughout the next couple of weeks wonderful Marine hero stories (like the one Cassy has today), trivia, culture and training info, jokes, games, videos and other great stuff in blatantly shameful attempts to woo you to pass up that Skinny Irish Latte several times this month and give to the 2009 Project Valour-IT fundraiser. And don’t forget to support the Marine Team!
