The SOTU address produced a small bounce among democrats a week ago. This was followed, almost immediately, by an outlier among men, both republican and independent.
This information affected the weekly averages, albeit slightly. Keep this information in mind when inspecting the data.
However, even with a bounce and an outlier, the approval numbers were not good. They were just a little better than the previous weeks.
I will include analysis below each table.
Weekly results and 4-week averages are important to look at but it isn’t the only thing to analyze.
Look below for details.
Let’s start with overall approval. The following table includes total approval and total disapproval since early May.

Six (6) weeks of incredibly consistent numbers, followed by an outlier (end of December). This was followed by a return to the normal range. Where this will lead is up in the air. It does appear as if job approval has stabilized in the high-46% to low-47% range.

The four week averages show a slight downward trend recently. This occurred during the end of December as well. We will need to monitor.
Interesting numbers.
So, when all of this data is put together, there appears to several things of note:
1. Approval by women has returned to the low 50% range.
2. Approval by independents is increasing.
3. Approval by men is low but it is increasing.

We all know this Boob is tanking. These posts are tedious.

Hondo,
An analysis needs to be thorough. You need to look at trends over time and be honest with that which you see.
You shouldn’t assume that the President is “tanking” without looking at numbers.
That is the reason that the analysis is as long as it is.

Well, thanks for the lecture. I’m sure you’re right. They are still Tedious.

obama’s approval has stabilized, just like the economy.
October 18th, 2009 at 3:58 pm
Tim,
I have developed a formula that can predict the President’s Job Approval based on Rasmussen’s polls of the Economy and National Security.
It’s actually quite fascinating. From that table, the approval for this week should be approximately 48.96%.
Let’s see how accurate it is.

Take the average of the previous 8 weeks of Obama on the Economy and Obama on National Security. Average the two numbers and add on the average of the difference of the last four economy vs approval weeks.
Weird, huh?

for us math challenged people, could you write down the formula with numbers in it?
October 19th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
The formula didn’t quite work out this week. My prediction was a wee bit too high.
You need the previous 8 weeks worth of data on Obama on the Economy and Obama on National Security and a calculator to do all of the work.
The formula was accurate to a tenth of a percentage point for three weeks in a row and then it was off by about 0.8% this week.
I will try to elaborate on another post.

Another problem for Barry left over from Bush and Fox News.
When will these whinners step up and take responsibilty? NEVER. It is always some else fault if you are a liberal.

The honeymoon has being over for a while now. I mean Americans aren’t that stupid not to see his faults. The following faults include exploding the deficit, having a failed stimulus, having a bad healthcare bill that nobody wants, taxing tobacco even though he smokes, and must I get into his failed crap and tax.

Frank,
I believe that Obama’s approval numbers will fall further based on these 5 factors:
1. He is going to be increasing the troop levels in Afghanistan- the progressives, will NOT like that.
2. He handles the Fort Hood terrorist attack quite poorly IMHO and questions arise how his national security team handled the foreknowledge that they did have on the possible dangers Hasan presented
3. Unemployment has climbed over the 10% mark, while the Obama administration is focused on health care and cap and trade. 80% of people are satisfied with their current health care. He comes across as trying to do too much at once. Fix the economy and jobs FIRST.- independents and conservatives not happy here
4. The more people learn about The Obama/ Pelosi Health Care Bill, the less they will like it- only progressives and SOME of those with no health insurance are pleased
5. Not going to Berlin to celebrate the fall of communism- independents and conservatives will not like that
November 11th, 2009 at 1:55 pm
Tim,
I agree with a lot of what you say. I think, however, that the most significant detail is the unemployment rate. That report appears to have affected “Obama on the Economy” and even “Obama on National Security.”
Democrats are going to support his positions regardless of the details. It will take much time for this support to decrease. It took five or six years for the republican support to fade for President Bush.
The democrats may decide to push hard for these bills because they see 1994 in the future. Gallup will spook them significantly. Who would have “thunk” it. A poll of adults showing a 48% to 44% republican lead of the generic ballot.
