It’s becoming more and more clear what the Obama administration is all about: paying back those who got him into power. So far the big winners have been Democrat states (especially Illinois) who were large benefactors of the porkulus bill and unions who have all received several hand outs from Obama, including a trade war with China over tires. Now comes the next biggest Obama constituency; newspapers.

The Hill reports that Obama is “happy to look at” a federal bailout of the newspaper industry, since they can’t obviously compete any longer. According to The Hill:

Obama said that good journalism is “critical to the health of our democracy,” but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting — especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.

“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.

Now that is rich. Obama is concerned about the poor fact-checking of the blogosphere and that “real journalism” like you’ll find in the New York Times or the Washington Post no doubt, will just disappear (we should be so lucky). Is this the same left-wing media that took about 5 days to even mention the Van Jones story? In fact, the New York times never once mentioned the controversy until the day he was fired. How the readers must have been shocked to discover a fellow leftist was thrown under the bus! Perhaps Obama is referring to the Pulitzer caliber, crack-shot reporting done by the left-wing media about ACORN staffers encouraging human trafficking and under-age prostitution; oh wait, that still has garnered nary a mention in most left-stream publications. You know things are messed up when John freaking Stewart is making fun of the media for ignoring a major story because it doesn’t fit their narrative or agenda.

Those are just two examples in the past two weeks, I could literally go on and on with examples of piss-poor reporting, plagiarism, complete bias, etc. etc. in the left-wing media, but I’ll spare you. Let’s please put to bed this idea that the left-wing sources like the Times and the Post (or CNN, CBS, NBC, etc) are simply objective reporters who’s only interest is in reporting the facts. That has not been the case in 30 years, if it was ever the case. The media has a vested interest in leftist politics, and now we see why, they want to feed at the public trough too.

However, when the government begins to directly subsidize the media don’t we run into a dangerous slippery slope situation where the media depends upon the government to get paid and doesn’t want to report anything that might endanger that continued good will, and thus they become Pravada.
