Adina Fohlin is the Swedish model who has made a name for herself by scaring the living daylights out of everyone who has viewed a new ad featuring her. We have the video here for you to view, of course.

Apoliva is a line of personal care products for Apotoket, a Swedish pharmacy chain. They made a commercial for their products that has basically gone viral on the internet. That’s every company’s dream, I’m sure. However, this isn’t quite the way they expected to go viral, but hey, whatever works.

What happened is that they used Swedish supermodel, Adina Fohlin, singing a Swedish folk song. The visuals and sound are haunting. She is standing in the rain, snow, sun and lightening flashes. The ad is austere and, yes, a little scary. The 30-second ad spot ends with the tagline, ‘Apoliva – for Swedish conditions’. Okay, so I suppose the Swedes deal with rain, snow, sun and lightening. The problem is, the odd lighting and gaunt look of the model scares viewers. Seriously!

A hundred thousand Swedes have viewed the ad on YouTube, and now many more from around the world. Facegroup’s have been formed as well as other social media sites in reaction to the ad. On Facebook you can find, ‘I am scared of the girl in the Apoliva commercial’ (‘Jag är rädd för tjejen i Apolivareklamen’). That site was started by Anders Hammas, a Swedish student who was frightened by the ad one night while he was studying. The description on the Facebook group reads:

Those of us who have a TV and like to watch commercials/can’t be bothered to reach for the remote are facing a problem. Apoliva has begun to run a commercial that is frightening. A woman singing a Nordic/Swedish folk song in freezing rain with lightning. I am creating this group for those of us who need somewhere to seek support and talk things out. It’s only a matter of time before it creeps into our dreams and terrorises us in our sleep.

The Apoteket brand manager, Eva Fernvall, told the Swedish newspaper Expressen, that it wasn’t their intention to scare people! Of course, through all their protests, they still are undoubtedly rubbing their hands together with glee at the reaction of the public to this ad. After all, who ever heard of Apoteket, Apoliva or Adina Fohlin before now? I mean, outside of Sweden.

Take a look at the commercial in the video below. If you think Apoliva and Adina Fohlin, Swedish model, scares viewers, just think about how we Americans feel whenever Michelle Obama is on television!
