Al Gore has been getting more than his fair share of publicity lately. Nominated for both an Oscar, and the Nobel Peace Prize, Gore has achieved rock star status in the liberal circles in which he runs.
Gore’s fictional movie, An Inconvenient Truth, that has been promoted as a documentary [definition of documentary: presenting facts objectively without editorializing or inserting fictional matter, as in a book or film], is full of so-called “scientific evidence� about global warming. But just how scientific is it?
According to some climate scientists, not very scientific at all.

What would happen if tomorrow we were told that, after all, the Earth is flat? It would probably be the most important piece of news in the media and would generate a lot of debate. So why is it that when scientists who have studied the Global Warming phenomenon for years say that humans are not the cause nobody listens? Why does no one acknowledge that the Emperor has no clothes on?
Believe it or not, Global Warming is not due to human contribution of Carbon Dioxide (CO2). This in fact is the greatest deception in the history of science. We are wasting time, energy and trillions of dollars while creating unnecessary fear and consternation over an issue with no scientific justification. For example, Environment Canada brags about spending $3.7 billion in the last five years dealing with climate change almost all on propaganda trying to defend an indefensible scientific position while at the same time closing weather stations and failing to meet legislated pollution targets.

Often dismissed by the doom and gloom crowd as crackpots or hired guns working for the oil industry, scientists that have not jumped on the global warming bandwagon have had a hard time getting any positive exposure from the mainstream media. Here are some comments from Canada Free Press about the “science� of An Inconvenient Truth made by scientists and experts that seem to debunk some of Gore’s statements.
Dr. Chris de Freitas, climate scientist, associate professor, University of Auckland, New Zealand: �I can assure Mr. Gore that no one from the South Pacific islands have fled to New Zealand because of rising seas. In fact, if Gore consults the data, he will see it shows sea level falling in some parts of the Pacific.�
Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner, emeritus professor of paleogeophysics & geodynamics, Stockholm University, Sweden: “We find no alarming sea level rise going on, in the Maldives, Tovalu, Venice, the Persian Gulf and even satellite altimetry if applied properly.�
Dr. Paul Reiter, Professor - Institut Pasteur, Unit of Insects and Infectious Diseases, Paris, France, comments on Gore’s belief that Nairobi and Harare were founded just above the mosquito line to avoid malaria and how the mosquitoes are now moving to higher altitudes: “Gore is completely wrong here - malaria has been documented at an altitude 2500 m - Nairobi and Harare are at altitudes of about 1500 m. The new altitudes of malaria are lower than those recorded 100 years ago. None of the “30 so called new diseases� Gore references are attributable to global warming, none.�
Dr. Mitchell Taylor, Manager, Wildlife Research Section, Department of Environment, Igloolik, Nunavut, Canada: “Our information is that 7 of 13 populations of polar bears in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (more than half the world’s estimated total) are either stable, or increasing …. Of the three that appear to be declining, only one has been shown to be affected by climate change. No one can say with certainty that climate change has not affected these other populations, but it is also true that we have no information to suggest that it has.�
Dr. Petr Chylek, adjunct professor, Dept. of Physics and Atmospheric Science, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada: “Mr. Gore suggests that Greenland melt area increased considerably between 1992 and 2005. But 1992 was exceptionally cold in Greenland and the melt area of ice sheet was exceptionally low due to the cooling caused by volcanic dust emitted from Mt. Pinatubo. If, instead of 1992, Gore had chosen for comparison the year 1991, one in which the melt area was 1% higher than in 2005, he would have to conclude that the ice sheet melt area is shrinking and that perhaps a new ice age is just around the corner.�
Dr. Gary D. Sharp, Center for Climate/Ocean Resources Study, Salinas, California: “The oceans are now heading into one of their periodic phases of cooling. … Modest changes in temperature are not about to wipe them [coral] out. Neither will increased carbon dioxide, which is a fundamental chemical building block that allows coral reefs to exist at all.�
Dr. R. M. Carter, professor, Marine Geophysical Laboratory, James Cook University, Townsville, Australia: “Both the Antarctic and Greenland ice caps are thickening. The temperature at the South Pole has declined by more than 1 degree C since 1950. And the area of sea-ice around the continent has increased over the last 20 years.�
Dr./Cdr. M. R. Morgan, FRMS, formerly advisor to the World Meteorological Organization, climatology research scientist at University of Exeter, U.K.: “From data published by the Canadian Ice Service there has been no precipitous drop off in the amount or thickness of the ice cap since 1970 when reliable over-all coverage became available for the Canadian Arctic.�
Rob Scagel, M.Sc., forest microclimate specialist, Pacific Phytometric Consultants, Surrey, British Colombia, Canada comments on Gore’s belief that the Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) is an “invasive exotic species� that has become a plague due to fewer days of frost: “The MPB is a species native to this part of North America and is always present. The MPB epidemic started as comparatively small outbreaks and through forest management inaction got completely out of hand.�

Thank you for this compilation of info. I have excerpted it and posted over at my blog to help spread the word from these REAL scientists to quell the spread of the socialist BIG LIE about climate change. The MSM is a willing participant in the spread of Algore’s BIG LIE.
If there is any REAL evidence of global warming, everything else I have seen and heard seems to refute it. Any warming has more to do with the sun than anything that mankind has done except for the excess hot gases spewed forth from various cavities of the Algore creature. I have heard that it is getting warmer on Mars too. How does Algore propose to stop that? Stop sending Mars probes because we are poluting their atmosphere? Haw haw haw!

I have stopped talking about how the scientific data just isn’t there. People look at me like I have 3 heads. Other scientists tell me that obviously I have allowed the conservative right to remove my brains. Fact: most scientists are liberal. 2nd fact: they are also grubbing for money - if they create a sense that a problem is going to cause impending doom, then they get more grant money. Since I’m not a climate scientist, I found that I was convincing nobody, so I have stayed out of it. I have not watched Wooden Al’s movie. My kids were forced to watch it at school. My church showed it a couple of weeks ago - all I could do was roll my eyes - I didn’t attend that one either.

a.) the earth is warming, that is not in doubt, and in fact there is some indication we may be in a long warming trend
b.) while i agree that there may not be evidence of causality between men and global warming, there is still no scientrific evidence of causality that cigarettes cause lung cancer in humans (that will always be the case because you can’t run experiments on humans so technically the tobacco companies are telling the truth.) there is however a huge correlation between cigarettes and lung cancer.
but in any case, we have been a warming trend since the 1980’s or so.

lisab-the earth will always have warming and cooling trends. That doesn’t mean anything other than this is an ever changing planet.

i agree …
my father is a physicist … he studies radiation effects on satellites and such … so he’s really into sun spot activity and cycles of the sun
but he is the first to admit that global warming is taking place. the question is why? he happens to believe it is (mostly) driven by the sun’s natural cycles

You can cherry-pick quotes from people with likely-sounding credentials but no real research to speak on the subject. It shows how inconvenient the truth is for people who cannot accept challenges to their desired lifestyle.
So far the predictions of the climate change “alarmists” have proven either accurate or optimistic.
- the world’s surface temperature has increased 1/3 degree Celsius since 1990 (at the upper end of the range predicted 20 years ago).
- the waters around the world rose 3.3 millimeters per year between 1993 and 2006 (the “pessimists” predeicted 2 millmeters 20 years ago)
- ice in arctic seas has retreated much faster than predicted 20 years ago.
- the rate of ice streams dumping into the seas has also accelerated much faster than predicted 20 years ago.
Important physicists doubted Einstein until the first A-bomb blast. You can still find highly-credentialed guys who insist that HIV does not cause AIDS. But people pay no attention to these doubters because people are afraid of AIDS and A-bombs, which gives them a strong motive to listen to the truth. The opposite is true with climate change: the pessimists are not offering you an *immediate* threat, while the doubters are telling you to go on with your preferred lifestyle because it harms no one.
